quade 4 #1 June 10, 2003 http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/06/10/mideast/index.html Quote Bush "is deeply troubled" by the strike of Israeli helicopter gunships in Gaza, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said after the first attack. "The president is concerned that the strike will undermine efforts by the Palestinian Authority in order to bring an end to terrorist attacks and does not contribute to the security of Israel," Fleischer said. TheAnvil 0 #2 June 10, 2003 http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,88988,00.html Compare and contrast the two articles. The CNN one fails to include the following quotes: Thousands of Hamas supporters crowded the courtyard outside Shifa Hospital after the missile strike, chanting slogans against Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen. "Abu Mazen, we want resistance!" the crowd shouted. "We will not give up. We will not cooperate with the Zionists." and "We will continue with our holy war and resistance until every last criminal Zionist is evicted from this land," Rantisi told the Arab TV satellite station Al Jazeera. "An eye for an eye ... a politician for a politician," said one Hamas leader, Mahmoud Zahar. Palestinians "must throw the road map into the garbage and commit to the map of holy war," he said. These people do not want peace. They were offered peace and statehood with over 95% of the land they asked for (even though Palestine has NEVER been a nation-state) by Ehud Barak and turned it down outright. Any peace that includes the continued existence of the state of Israel is unacceptable to Hamas, Islamic Jihad, or the Al Aqsa Martyrs. Sickening. quade 4 #3 June 10, 2003 I guess my point had more to do with the irony of The White House making a statement like that in the face of what has transpired since September 11, our attacks attempting to quash Bin Laden's organization and the further regime change in Iraq -- then followed by the announcement that we're likely to receive a WMD attack within the next two years. Sort of seems like it was not only all for nothing -- but has actually made things quite a bit worse, which is approximately the statement The White House was using in criticizing the Israeli helicopter attacks of the Hamas compound.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

TheAnvil 0 #5 June 10, 2003 I don't see the analogy you're making. WRT our actions in Iraq take a look at Mona Charen's latest column at townhall.com. I have some problems with current US policy over there. The no-competition bids for some of the reconstruction efforts kind of ticked me off. The salaries of some of the Americans going over there to work are exorbitant (and come out of our pockets indirectly) - we could get the same labor done with locals, improve their quality of life, and generate some goodwill. All in all I think we're doing a good job, but certain directions anger me. I hope that if I had all of the data I'd think differently. TheAnvil 0 #7 June 10, 2003 You said it dude! I've been oscillating in between CNN and FOX news a bit as of late to compare, and there really is no comparison. Fox presents facts and perspectives that do not get presented over there. I used to cede to lefties that Fox was a bit tilted towards the right, but have since revised my opinion. I now think that Fox is just news without the leftist bias, so it seems canted to the right. billvon 3,116 #8 June 10, 2003 I always liked their choice of logo: Fox news - Fair, balanced. Al Jazeera - Objective and balanced. Good to see that there are two news outlets that present a balanced view of the news! And you know they do, because they say so.

falxori 0 #10 June 17, 2003 QuoteAnd you know they do, because they say so. well i saw them shouting it on TV and even with my poor arabic, understood what they were shouting and saying. if one network doesnt show it, it doesnt mean it didnt happen. not saying that FOX is not a bit over militaristic sometimes but, if you REALLY want to hear what they are saying without the usual act for the world media, check their local networks... the things you hear there are anything but peaceful...
