billvon 3,121 #1 June 9, 2003 Driving back from Perris on Sun night I had a new personal best for gas mileage - 56.0 MPG over the 64 miles from Perris to San Diego. It was raining so traffic was slow to begin with, especially up the hills.

Matt
 billvon 3,121 #14 June 9, 2003 Several answers at once: >do you think you would have got even better if it were dry? No; if anything the rain slowed everyone down so I got better mileage. Usually I get 49-50mpg, driving at 70-75. If it had been daylight I would have gotten even better mileage, since the lights take 300 watts or so of power that otherwise would have gone to the wheels. >I love it!!! How long have you had this car? Do you love it? Is is >hard to maintain? I want all the skinny. I like it. Only gripe I have is that the back seat doesn't fold down so I can't fit 8 foot 2x4's in it. No unusual maintenance, just the usual oil changes and stuff. It drives like any other car. The engine does shut down at red lights, which takes some getting used to. >do the honda insight cars get better MPG? or about the same with your civic? Insights get about 20% better mileage. Lots of people get 60-70 MPG on Insights; some people top out over 90 MPG by using a lot of tricks. Just one question: Are we allowed to have a cool car anymore? Personally, I rather only get 33mpgs and drive my RSX. It looks better and it's a lot more fun. Do any of the manufacturers have plans of designing hybrid sports cars? Chris _________________________________________ Chris
 AndyMan 7 #20 June 10, 2003 Quote Do any of the manufacturers have plans of designing hybrid sports cars? Yup, both Honda and Toyota have plans for a complete line of Hybrids, including SUV's, pickups, and sportscars. The fuel economy of these aren't expected to be off-the charts, like Bill's car, but will still be way better then anything else on the road. The numbers I heard were something like 35 MPG for the SUV. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. I average 13-15mpg. Around 10mpg if I'm towing something large. I do feel confident that I would be pretty damned safe if anything happened, though. I've never gone over the scales before (that'd be a fun thing to do), but I estimate my truck at just over 5,000lbs, and since I sit higher the a lot of the things on the road, I have a better chance of not getting my cab caved in around me by some car.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
