moodyskydiver 0 #1 June 6, 2003 I haven't jumped in over 6 months. I had some bad experiences that left me with a serious fear of jumping and I have been on the verge of quitting completely b/c I'm a chicken shit. Well, I just got off the phone with the DZO. I'm going to sit down with him and a JM tomorrow to see what we have to do to help me get back on track. I want to do whatever it takes even if I have to do a friggin tandem just to get me out the door again. Ugh! please tell me not to chicken out!(I feel like an idiot!) ok,I'm gonna go hyperventilate now. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
divingduck 0 #2 June 6, 2003 hon, you will do just fine. I got really freaked out after my second tandem, and now I am on to completing my AFF. You are a beautiful, wonderful, smart and intelligent creature (from what I have gathered from your posts). Good luck and godspeed...or something. Just have fun, isn't that what sports are all about? <<<<>>> If I loved you anymore I would have a stroke
jessd 0 #3 June 6, 2003 I rode the plane down on my AFF level 4 jump. I have not jumped since I did my first three levels. I am planning to go to the DZ tomorrow. I am going to try and spend more time than normal going over the jump and emergency procedures to help me feel more comfortable. From what I have been told from many experienced jumpers it is normal to have fear especially when you have not jumped in a while. Good luck. CrazyIvan 0 #4 June 6, 2003 One simple thing, after a long absense, is normal to be 'afraid' but, since you've jumped before, after another jump you'll feel much better, just relax, listen to your instructors and have fun, all this will be nothing but a memory. __________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. Sebazz1 2 #5 June 6, 2003 There is absolutely nothing to be afraid of. This skydiving stuff is a piece of cake. It's all in your head. Take a couple of deap breaths to change that mind chemistry and just go soar through the skies. skybytch 273 #7 June 6, 2003 Don't put so much pressure on yourself. I'll give you the same advice I gave someone else here recently. Go to the dz, take your gear, talk to the instructors, but don't plan to jump that day. If you feel like it, then great, you have your gear, you're good to go. If not, no worries, you're just enjoying a nice day at the dz. Repeat as needed. It may take a few trips, but soon you'll find yourself comfortable with the idea of jumping again. And if you don't, again, no worries. You've still accomplished more than a large percentage of the whuffo world has. You didn't just do a tandem, you became a skydiver. When you became a skydiver you became a part of our family. That only stops when you decide not to be a part of the family any more, not because you stop jumping. wmw999 2,558 #18 June 7, 2003 Amber, you'll do great. Remember that part of the reason fo r some folks to jump is the people, and hang out with them! Relax, and do whatever jump makes you happy, in whatever winds make you happy. You'll be great. It's intense making your first jump after a layoff (been there a few times), but it's SO worth it! Jib 0 #19 June 7, 2003 The last time I was out at the DZ, there were a couple of hard-core freefliers commenting about having the jitters after being off for a month. So, even people with 50+ times the jumps you have get nervous from time to time. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. moodyskydiver 0 #20 June 7, 2003 Ok, starting to calm down just a little(I'm sure I'll be jittery again tomorrow though). Now I'm getting really psyched! Jeez, I haven't even been to the DZ in 3-4 months, so just being around people who understand my moodiness(ok moodiness is that even a word?oh well) will be a welcome change. dzdiva 7 #22 June 7, 2003 I went through the same anxiety and fear that you are going through. I had my doubts that I was going to jump again. I hadn't jumped in 2 1/2 months and had to get current again. They had me do a level 4 with a JM. I didn't mind this because I was sooo scared. This particular JM has always been able to calm me down. We had a few jumps together when I was going through AFF and even when we weren't jumping together he was usually on the same load. I was still a nervous wreck going to altitude on my recurrency jump. Anyway we get to altitude and the green light went on I looked at him and he said "Are you ready to skydive?" I shook my head no, but climbed into the door anyway. As soon as the air hit my face all the fear disappeared! I also have the support of my wonderful man. He said he'd be there for whatever I decided to do! Thanks Baby! Moody...you'll be fine. You're a skydiver! If you need to pm me. We can chat! Good luck, take your time and do what you feel you need to do.Peace- Diva"It's not just a daydream if you choose to make it your life..."
b1jercat 0 #23 June 7, 2003 Good Luck/Vibes to you , you can do it . on the ride to alti tell your self to relax, at the door, take a deep breath and tell your self, Yes this is what I'm here for. Relax and go. It will be the best jump you ever had. That first jump after a lay off /what ever is always sweet. blue skies jerry
tbrown 26 #24 June 7, 2003 Some of the best dives I ever made scared me to death. I jumped El Capitan in 1980 (legally) and was so scared my voice cracked. Fear just keeps us honest. The moment you're launched, you are going to be back in ECSTASY. You will be soooooo glad you did. at Perris, everybody gives each other "some skin" on the ride up. Personally I think it's just an excuse for us to wipe our sweaty palms, but it's amazing what a pickup it is. You're gonna be just fine. P.S. I think everybody at this site just loves you. MagicLou 0 #25 June 7, 2003 Amber, Relax, Lisa's advice is solid, as is most everyone else's. I'm at about the same place you are (12 jumps), every time I go to the DZ I review emergency procedures. Tell your instructor about your nervousness and when you're ready to get aboard the plane, focus on what you're doing. Be analytical. You know the drill. you know the emergency procedures take your time and let me know when you have more jumps than me. Quote hmm..I get my butt kicked if I don't jump.So what will you guys give me if I do jump? Name your price. Good luck.Lou ___________________________________ . . . now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb - Dark Helmet
