I want to do whatever it takes even if I have to do a friggin tandem just to get me out the door again.

You are not alone with the crap I've indured in the last few years....I too get scared half to death....I even suggested a tandom to....glad they talked me outta it.....maybe do a static line then clear n pull to freshen you up....I tell you when they got me up there and the door opened a sence of calmness came over me...Then when I jumped I opened (hop n pop) and thought to myself man...I've done this many times why fret...it was beautiful to see the sky as I drifted back to the dz....landed on my but again:Sbut got up smiling from ear to ear why because I overcame the same fear we both experienced.....you can do this....I know you can

Amber.. don't think for a minute that your the only person ever to feel scared, its completely natural.

Apprehension & fear go hand-in-hand, but you have done the worst part already,
and although you don't really think it right now....you actually lose the fear part,
and you get to the stage where your more concerned about doing your jumps right & to your own standards,
that puts pressure on you, and maybe that is what is holding you back at the moment ?
Relax ? .....its easy to say i suppose, but just "give in" to it, and feel the air around you & smile ....your paying for it. ;)

You are in the zone girl, and you are going to do it....the only question is when ?

It was one of the coolest moments of my life when i passed my AFF, as i thought i had failed,
but nothing comes near to it now, and its changed my life for the better, and it will change yours too.

Positive Vibes and if you only remember one thing from these posts...

Remember to enjoy every minute of it. B|

You are going to feel "AWESOME!" when you step out the door...once you get rid of the plane the vibes click on.B|
I quit for 5 years (started in '91) and my 1st jump was a bit nerve wracking on the ground but, as soon I got off the ground, I actually had tears welling up as I saw the clouds go by.:)
I thought "this is so beautiful, How could I ever have left this! I want this in my life forever!":)The "fear gremlin" never boarded the plane. It felt like I was "in love".:$:)

My confession: I did my refresher with Doug Forth at Cross Keys, He is a real down to earth guy that made everything work perfectly.( I had my 1st cut-away on that jump too:o)

well, I've been out since last fall. I got laid off in December & haven't been able to justify pissing away $ skydiving. Weather's been shit anyway. But I had two good interviews last week, so I will probably get a job soon.

I think I will sneak over to Chambersburg on Monday or Tuesday. Sunday (tomorrow) it will probably be packed w/ students, since it will be the first weekend that hasn't been rained out.

I gotta get current. I only have 70 jumps & its making me a bit nervous.

But y'all are reminding me about what happens when I finally jump after a long layoff: Afterwards I feel like I've just had some really great sex! (is that weird or what?)

There is absolutely nothing to be afraid of.

unfortunately Sebazz there are things to be afraid of...you can die in this sport.....and you have to accept that.

Amber,

Be strong and get out that door. you will feel much better when your knee's are in the wind!!!!! BUT it is a great idea for you to sit down with the DZO and a JM. I'm confident that you know you want to be involved in this sport and all that you have is a heavy case of the door jitters. I'd suggest a tandem...get your ears wet so to speak(well dont let the tandem master spit on em that is)...:P:P:P:P

be safe ok?

Just relax and get out of the door. Maybe taking an observer ride, watching people jump and seeing them safe on the ground might help.....

Well, I went out to the DZ yesterday morning and talked to the DZO and JM. I spent 4 hours going through a recurrency course, relearning everything I've forgotten in 6 months, and dirt diving a recurrency jump that ended up similar to a combination AFF 4 & 5 with some tracking exercises thrown in. Every time we took a break they'd ask if I was comfortable and ready to jump..nope. The DZO even worked with me on better canopy control, flaring techniques, and offered to be on a radio during my landing if I wanted. As the day wore on, my fears did subside slightly, but I just wasn't ready. I never made the jump.I came home sunburnt, sore from training, disgusted with myself and feeling like a total loser and coward. I was supposed to go back today and try again but I just felt like shit and stayed in bed.

Just relax, take a break, it will happen.

Hey, congratulations, you made it, you went and got your re-training, that's a big step. Just wait until you're ready, I know you'll do it. (((HUG))) :)

Amber, you are neither a loser nor a coward. Just someone suffering from jitters due to a long layoff. Give yourself time and stop beating yourself up.

When you are ready, you will go. Until then don't sweat it and jsut think good thoughts.

Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.

Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

Amber, you spent all day preparing -- now you're ready and can let it all sink in. You have the tools, and you'll kick ass when you use them!

How about some tandems ?, i hear AggieDave is looking for some fresh meat.

ok is it just me or should the words "tandem" and "fresh meat" totally not be in the same sentence?:S

But anyway, I mentioned tandems to the JM and he said that, after reading my logbook, training and spending the day with me, he really didn't want to see me regress that much and thought I'd be much better off with just a recurrency jump.I trust him and kinda agree with him even though I know a tandem would be the easier route.[:/]

Don't be so hard on yourself. It's going to happen. It just didn't happen today. Something obviously shook you up pretty badly. Anybody that says they've never been nervous before doing something of this sort is lying.

It took courage for you to even go back to the dropzone today. Baby steps, baby steps - just like that Bill Murray comedy a few years ago.

Vinny, it's up to her. Remember, it might not happen.

I know, she's here asking for vibes to help her get into the air, but in the end, it's her choice, and no-one should push her either way.

Moody, when you're ready, you'll do it, on your own.

If you don't ever jump again, don't fret about it. It's a personal choice, and one only you can make. You've been there. You know what it's like. You are a skydiver, whether or not you ever jump again.

You are family.

I think AggieDave would tell you, "If you feel something poking you from behind, remember: I'm just excited about the skydive!":D
