The purpose of this forum is to report, discuss and learn from fatal and serious non-fatal incidents.

Not a problem, and like I said, IMHO some of your points were definitely not invalid either (I'm in a double-negative kinda day too) ;)

After all, you did succeed in getting me over here "in the social forums" in the 1st place ...again another: ;)

Looks like Sangiro has put a commentary in a thread (in the incidents forum now) he just "bumped" inviting ON TOPIC relevant questions & discussion to. I do say I have to agree that (and I think even you see now) that THIS discussion was not meant for THERE!

Further, it looks like he has even COMPLETELY ERASED my thread, as if it never even existed!!

What do you think? (you were one the ones who saw it, it was YOUR posting there that got me over to here)... ...Should I now go on a tirade?;)

I'd like to learn from your experience! ;););):P

Nothing personal, but normally I'd tell a troll to fuck off. In person.

What, so every troll on the net you normally buy a return air ticket, fly to where they live and tell them to fuck off in person?

Dude, you must rack up some serious air-miles! :D

God - don't quite know what to say... I haven't gone on a forum tirade in years on the www, now that I feel like garbage for pissing so many people off, I'm going to wait a few more years. I'd make a great politician eh ;);)

If anything, I now have more respect for each and everyone of you and really hope all of our paths cross someday.

PS - I AM NO TROLL sheesh - I started out quick in the sport, had shoulder surgery and two knee replacements for the record. I miss the sport and am just now hopping back on the horse cuz the doc said the knee was good to go last night. Heh, little does he know, I still got 20 in over the winter as well as that kick ass balloon jump on Sunday am at mile hi. Balloons rock. Hands down. I need one. My fioncee said she'd learn to pilot heh!!!

Wow. You just got a lot of respect from me right there. Blue skies and exceptional health to you and yours!

It would still be nice to hear what Sangiro thinks of our suggestion though. It's very easy to fly off the handle at a time like this, and a simple paragraph could prevent another one of our brothers getting into this position.

Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.

So you were at our CASA boogie and you didn't say Hi? Man I'm insulted. ;) Just pulling your leg ... there were so many people there it was hard to know who was who. Were you there Saturday and Sunday? I was one of the few freefliers there all weekend. I couldn't believe that the RW folks out numbered us darksiders. But that was just one very busy weekend. The darkside will be taking over the DZ again this weekend. :P

Naw canuck man - I had to work all day Sat and Sun and could only make it out for one freakin balloon jump. To be honest with you though, I was going to see if I could search you out as I've only seen your mug on this here site!!

I hope the rest of the boogie was a great time, Frank seemed to think everyone was havin a kickin time when I talked to him.

I'll see you either this weekend or next up there though FOR FRIGGIN SURE - i.e. I'm just finishing up this extra project and will finally be gettin some freetime.

PS - Are you big into sit flyin? If so, I'm hittin you up for sure. I only have about 20 head down jumps, but I've got about 100 sits and am pretty comfortable with bigger sit-ways, still new to the upside down flyin tho!!!

Out of necessity I have to be more proficient with my sit (I weigh 200 lbs naked) and occasionally jump with people who are much lighter than me. So my sit is better than my head down. But I am also working on getting better with my head down transitions and daffys. To help you recognize me, I do look like my avatar and I'm at Mile-Hi most weekends. I wear baggy white freefly pants and in the summer, I often seem to jump in a t-shirt. I also jump a side-mount Hawkeye camera helmet. I'm no freefly rock star (yet ;)), but I'm much better now than I was at the Eloy Holiday boogie. :$

I appreciate that this thread has settled a little, but I'd like to put my $0.02 in.

There is such a thing as tact and compassion. Information can be shared in many different ways, and some "details" CAN wait. Taking a moment to consider the emotion of the situation before posting could make someone change a word or sentence and still make the same point without needlessly offending.

I believe what set most people "off" was the discussion of medical care. This is absolutely not the place to acquire this type of knowledge. There is ONLY one way to get that and it's to pursue some formal training. This particular part of the conversation was truly useless and very painful for many people. If a moment had been taken to see the real use of discussing it, a lot of hurt may well have been avoided.

If anyone is interested in learning emergency care, please check out this site http://www.cpr-ecc.org/

I really don't think that anyone is disputing the fact that discussing the incident is beneficial. But there are aspects of it that really do not need to be picked apart, serve no purpose and cause undue pain. At the very least, there are details that can wait.

I think we tend to get desensitized by the internet medium. If we were discussing an incident in person, with someone that was there, would we have the same attitude? If someone were distressed and had some first hand details, would you stand defiantly in front of them and say “But I’m entitled to discuss this and I want to know right now EVERYTHING that you saw!!!” Could you? Sure. Would you? I hope not, because most of us have a modicum of sensitivity and compassion for people in pain.

I wish people would stop using the “saving someone else’s life” as an excuse for ignoring reasonable levels of restraint. There is such a thing as morbid curiosity, and it neither benefits or helps.

Spread the Love,
Emma.

I'm not ignoring this thread, quite the contrary. I seldom jump into a conversation while emotions are high and I don't mind saving my response for later. There will be time... ;)

I think it's a good suggestion. I'll apply my mind to how I can clarify the guidelines in Incidents further.

Feel free to continue expressing your opinions on how the incidents forum should take shape here.

"I wish people would stop using the “saving someone else’s life” as an excuse for ignoring reasonable levels of restraint. There is such a thing as morbid curiosity, and it neither benefits or helps."

I humbly disagree to a certain extent. That is really all I want to do. If I may make an analogy - some people got angry when the Incident involving the now deceased Holly got out of hand, but because of some level of "morbid curiosity" and one DZ.commers comment I now bring along an extra pair of spectacles with me on every jump because I could do some serious injury to someone and or myself if I ever lost a contact.

However, I am with you that restraint must and should be taken, its the line that is being discussed here. I am sincere in my desire to see Incidents discussed to the fullest extent possible - which people may not agree with and that is fine with me - for the only reason of perhaps being able to really help out a future situation. Nothing more. You do not walk in my shoes, therefore you cannot possibly know that the description "I wish people would stop using the “saving someone else’s life” as an excuse for ignoring reasonable levels of restraint" really isn't my excuse but my goal.

Also, with respect to Roger's Incident thread, do you believe the forum crossed the lines of reasonable levels of restraint? Just curious.

Also, I'm not trying to beat a horse dead here, and I mean no disrespect to you as I agree with 99 percent of what you say, just not the part about using saving people's lives as an excuse. I'll bet you a hundred bux that my contact will pop out someday and having those extra pair of specs around will definately help me and perhaps save someone elses rear end from my blind ass hitting them. Also, I would be willing to bet now that I know due to Roger's thread that it doesn't take going to medical school to learn the proper first responder techniques that I will soon be enrolling in those types of courses. Both examples of benefits of letting the flow of the Incident Threads go where they may.

With that said, I do really agree that there should be a certain line to limit posts on, the question is, and has yet to be answered by any of the DZ.com head haunchos, where is that line. I mean that with the utmost respect to the head haunchos and that is precisley the reason I started this thread to begin with. Maybe they just need to add in more verbage into the posting guidelines in the Incident forum and then little ol me will stop thinking on ways to improve that system.

Anyhow - good comments - blue skys!

Also - how is it being morbidly curious to want to see what happened, what the response was on the ground, and what could have been done differently. I phone two people the night I heard about the accident and asked them all of the above questions. What happened, is he alright, will he make it through, any ideas...

BTW - who blatently ignored reasonable levels of restraint and how? Other than in this thread anyhow as I can fill in my name for the answer to that ;)

Just my 1 cent.
