Michele 1 #1 June 15, 2003 Blurb on MSNBC...can't find confirmation yet. 4 die in skydiving crash. A cessna from a Pittsburgh skydiving center crashed, killing all aboard. FAA confirms plane was carrying 5 passengers, and was at Greenburgh Regional Airport. No immediate cause given for the crash. I cannot confirm from any linkable source...can anyone else? I so hope this is a false report. Blue skies and condolences to all. Jessica 0 #2 June 15, 2003 Shit. JEANNETTE, Pa. (AP) — A skydiving plane crashed as it was taking off from a small western Pennsylvania airport, killing at least four of the five people aboard, authorities said. It wasn't immediately clear if the fifth person survived. The Cessna 205 crashed about 1:15 p.m. at Greensburg Jeannette Regional Airport, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Arlene Salac said. She said the plane was being used for a skydiving operation and four people were dead. The cause of the crash is under investigation, Salac said. The airport is in Jeannette, about 20 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The plane is registered to Charles E. Bryant of Greensburg, Salac said. A Greensburg company called Chuck Bryant's Skydive Bouquet is described on a skydiving Web site as a family-run company with a Cessna 205. A message left at the company's number was not immediately returned Sunday.Skydiving is for cool people only
andy2 0 #3 June 15, 2003 pardon me, but what is this doing in talkback? Why not post it in incidents? This is a skydiving incident, and posting a news article only is appropriate as far as I know. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... Jessica 0 #4 June 15, 2003 It's entirely appropriate in talkback, especially before it's been confirmed. Anyway, it's there now.Skydiving is for cool people only
Michele 1 #5 June 15, 2003 As I was unable to confirm it from outside information, I was looking for that here. Further, as I have zero information as to the cause of the accident, and wanted to post condolences, I posted it here. skreamer 1 #7 June 15, 2003 I agree. This is shocking news, probably one of everybody's worst fears, the ride in the aircraft is something we have no control over. When one person dies it is a tragedy, but losing four people at a little dropzone like that? I really feel for those people, that little community must be in shock right now. My thoughts are with them.
Viking 0 #8 June 15, 2003 that is so true, little dropzone are so tight nit that loosing just one person is almost unbearable. Fireflyer 0 #9 June 15, 2003 I just saw it on a news commercial here and I just stopped everything. I live 30 minutes from there; its just SE of Pittsburgh. I am doing AFF now and have a half dozen jumps at another great DZ. My condolences to their friends and family. edit: I am just watching the local news here in Pitt now and it is reported from eyewitness accounts the plane may have had engine trouble. Shortly after takeoff, the plane banked a few times, then came around to land. It crash landed just short of the runway. The pictures were just a mess. 4 people died including the pilot and the plane's (and DZ's?) owner Charles Bryant. One jumper was lifeflighted from the scene. skycutie 0 #10 June 15, 2003 My condolences to the community and to the families. My DZ is very, very tiny, and I know the feeling of loosing fellow skydivers.... But 4, wow, that's tough... I will pray for them all to the Almighty….

I just meant maybe it would reach more people and be more effective as a post in incidents. The initial report and facts go in incidents, discussion and speculation while facts are few and in their infancy go here. edit: so i was told by the moderator regarding the incident in Chicago
skreamer 1 #13 June 15, 2003 Quote4 people died including the pilot and the plane's (and DZ's?) owner Charles Bryant. That is the third DZO who has died recently - makes it so much harder for those left behind to cope (having to balance grief with keeping a business running). Fireflyer 0 #14 June 15, 2003 2 men identified thus far: 49 yr man from Johnstown PA, and the 61 yr old DZO Charles Bryant of the skydive club/team "Skydive Bouquet" (Bouquet is a town name).

bvsdjumper 0 #17 June 16, 2003 Thanks for relaying this info. If anyone knows the names of the people involved, I'd like to know. I live in Johnstown but never skydived at Bouquet. I may know some people that jump there. My heart-felt condolences to their family and loved-ones. --ArtSky-div'ing (ski'div'ing) n. bvsdjumper 0 #18 June 16, 2003 From KDKA QuoteBacha identified two of the men who died as Charles Bryant, 61, of Greensburg and David Ray, 49, of Seward. Bryant, who owned the plane, was not piloting at the time of the crash. A third man who died was identified as Terry Blanish, 52, of West Newton, according to deputy coroner Joe Musgrove. Officials did not identify the pilot, pending notification of his family. The pilot was a 52-year-old Pittsburgh man, Bacha said. Damn, I know Terry. I jumped with him a few times. He was on my first "demo" jump. We took off from Latrobe airport and jumped into a jumper's girlfriend's farm. I had to pack at the airport and broke a rubber band. I didn't have any, but Terry did and he gave me one. A helluva nice guy. Shit. --ArtSky-div'ing (ski'div'ing) n. Amazon 7 #23 June 16, 2003 I am getting to the point where I even hate to see another new thread posted in incidents....there were a LOT of fatalities back in the late 70's and early 80's when i quit jumping.. but this year... my first back in 22 years seems to be a VERY bad one. Its a very hard thing to see or to know someone who dies yet as time goes on it happens to more people you know..My condolences to the family and to the friends who will go on with life. Remember the good times and that will help the bad times into the background that much sooner. Amazon
Remster 30 #24 June 16, 2003 Quote.. but this year... While I'm not saying this year is a good one, I stared to tell myslef the same thing you did: man, this year is awfull, then I remembered that I said the same thing last year, and I'm pretty sure the year before too....Remster
skreamer 1 #25 June 16, 2003 And if you personally knew someone who went in then it makes it a bad year, regardless of the total number of incidents. I can remember people arguing with Skybytch when she said skydiving was dangerous. People quoting statistics etc., fact is it is a dangerous sport we choose to take part in.
