Those stupid night jumps

Recommended Posts

they were your 1st night jumps, shit girl, here we have to do 3 hop n pops before we're alloud to go to height.
So you need at least 3 jumps here to get a night rating.
your so lucky:)Well Done
You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky)

oh yeah - guess technically we did get 5 points huh......Good fun!

I bet it is going to be just as awesome in the early AM hours and watching the sun rise as it was to see that big moon lighting up the sky. Have fun - be safe!

It seems just about every time I visit a new place, there is something that makes it "something you'll never forget".....but then again, we are jumping out of planes - not many people can say that either. I had to stop by Sebastian on my way home just to say how much fun I had in Deland! I had no plans to jump...I was tired as all get up and my wallet is empty also ;) worth all the fun though!

Take care TB99 - keep in touch and I'll hold you to the freefly jump. I'm jonesing a bit after just one weekend of no freeflying. I can't wait to get back up and start playing again.....

Hugs, D

Congratulations on your night jumps! Speaking of night jumps. You guys should have seen the night CRW they did out here at Perris last night! 16 way diamond! There where 2 camera men and 2 guys with these huge flood lights on their heads. From the ground it was one of the most impressive things I have ever witnessed. I'm sure the local wuffo's thought there where UFO's invading. Brad Hood and Craig O'Brien got great video and stills. They are summiting photos to Parachutist. Almost makes you want to go and do it. ALMOST!

Pretty soon, you'll be teaching the class.

Bwahaha, I'm sure you have quite a few people chuckling with that statement! :D Actually, there was one point I forgot to make, and it concerns the pre-flight gear check that we were doing. I had turned my AAD on pretty early in the morning, so I wanted it checked. Some people said it would still be on, but since it's time for new batteries, I wanted to be sure. My Cyrpes was on but they still turned it off and back on again. When I mentioned that Sunnydee had started early in the day, they looked at hers and it was off. I just want to put that out as a reminder to everyone since a lot of people will be going for their "D" this year and doing night jumps.

Clay, Stacy and Galen...I'm sorry I blew you off and it's so sweet of you to plan to celebrate my birthday! I hope to catch you all again another time. TB99 and Sunnydee, I hope I can be as calm as you guys someday. And, I'm jealous of the action that you guys had on your jump. ;)

And, for anyone who gets tape residue on their jumpsuit, "Goo-gone" works wonders and didn't fade the material at all. I've heard that gaffers tape doesn't leave the residue, but it also wasn't sticking to the material very well. I'm wondering if maybe the high humidity in FL had something to do with that.

I don't use tape on my suit. To get around the tape problem, I do this: Some glowsticks have a hook on each end. Run a rubber band under the top of your reserve flap and loop each end in the hooks. You have a glowstick on the back of your rig. :)
I also put my strobe on my leg strap with rubber bands.

However, to really light up, I have a maglite in a pouch on my chest strap to the left side. Under canopy, I turn it on and it shines up at my canopy. I look like a floating Christmas tree and all the others can see me easily.

We did put glowlights on our reserve flaps, but they were the kind that you loop together for a necklace. I had a flashlight strapped to my wrist, but I was told not to use it because it distorts your night vision. I also put a blinking bicycle strobe on my chest strap and shoe. One guy taped flashlights to the top of his shoes. It was pretty neat watching him track away from me, it was like watching big ol' fireflies.

Good thing I didn't go through the trouble of reserving the "Rug Rats" promotion room. You would have gotten a backpack and some other worthless junk!!! What a birthday!!! But 1st night jumps are pretty special.B|

I have tried the strobe on the chest strap and it drives me nuts. Makes me blink every time the strobe blinks. That is why I put it on my leg strap. The flashlight on my chest strap does not seem to bother me.

I like to have a flashlight handy because I check my canopy before releasing my brakes. :)

Hmmm noone else mentioned it, but wasn't it your first night jump? Isn't that a case of beer? Did I just catch a greenie for a case of beer? Score! Also, did that goo gone stuff stink up your jumpsuit like it did my car? :)

Yes, there was a strong, citrusy smell to my jumpsuit, but at least all the gunk came off. But, I threw it in the wash, and now it's back to normal.

I'm thinking I owe lotsa beer and would LOVE to come back to Deland and "pay up".......Let's see:
First canopy control class, first complete canopy stall, first slide in on my butt landing, first rain in freefall and under canopy, first Porter jump, first night jump.....Oh yeah - I owe beer!!!!

AND MUCHO BIG THANKS to Skymama for reminding us to check our Cypresses, since I know mine was off and so was TB99. It was worth having to untape a glowstick and slide the rig off to know that "in the worse case scenario" I would still be ok.

I think I am still basking in the excitement of the weekend....only thing missing was that PROMISED jump from a Mr. Chris Hayes who SAID he'd be there Saturday. RRRRrrrr >:(.....now he owes me BIG TIME! ;)

I didn't have a problem reading my alti while FF. I used a mini glow stick attached to my alti with gaffers tape on the left side so that I could see from 6 grand and under.

I just wanted it on the record: I did not buy beer immediately because...
A. I did 13 jumps that day and was broke as hell
B. There were not enough people to drink all of the beer owed
C. I was too tired to be an active participant in the beer consumption

Plus, now I owe beer because this is the *first* time I haven't bought the beer I owed at the time it was owed. I pay up.

What do you guys think? Am I going to "beer violation hell?"[:/]
