Where do I get sewing stuff from?

Recommended Posts

In my long running tradition of posting nothing remotely skydiving related to dropzone.com:

Where can I buy thread from in the US? I mean, in the UK, I'd go to John Lewis or something. Which of the big chains would carry that kind of stuff; ie, threads, needles etc.? (I'm in SF)

I just moved into a place, and when they told me how much curtains were going to cost I ordered fabric and a sewing machine from the internet. How hard can making curtains be?

Dude, you are the man. I'm all on-balance and you're ordering do-it-yourself curtain kits off of E-Bay. Bwoing!

:ph34r::ph34r:

Yellow pages, under sewing supplies.

They gotta have something in the Mans Dress Shop over on Polk.

Bwah!

Wouldn't buying curtains be cheaper than buying a sewing machine??

But, you can buy thread at most craft stores.

Is there a Wal-Mart nearby? They always have a craft section, usually in the back of the store.

Use the store locator on the top... http://www.joann.com/

And, all you guys that think buying stuff is better. A new jump suit only costs $50 if you can make it yourself. The cost of the sewing machine is paid for quickly.

Oh, I forgot about that. That's another great idea Skymama.

Hancock Fabrics (and other mainstream fabric stores too probably, but Hancock is pretty cheap) sells all kinds of stuff to make curtains -- stiff inserts for the pleated look, weights for the bottoms, and really cheap curtain lining fabric.

And curtains made from sheets can look pretty good, if you use all that stuff. The store will probably also have books on how to do it. Roman shades are a major pain, though :S
