Tonto 1 #26 June 19, 2003 Wow. So I've driven 2,280 000 miles with only 1 injury... (that's 3 468 000km!) I'm a good driver! tIt's the year of the Pig.
EricTheRed 0 #27 June 19, 2003 QuoteThose are interesting numbers... not sure what to make of it, but I guess it depends on how much you do of each activity??? And of course, how you do each activity. The way I normally drive (small car, very fast - on a lot of very winding 2 lane roads) my chance of getting hurt in a crash is much higher than SoccerMom who drives her station wagon to the store in the burbs. Likewise a jumper that wingloads 3/1 and swoops is more likely to get hurt than the same jumper loaded at 1:1 (unless he's doing CRW maybe) Just shows once again that statistics are good for mathmaticians and politicians and aren't worth much to an individual. You pay yo $$, and you take yo chances.illegible usually

Laurel 0 #29 June 19, 2003 I definitely think skydiving is more dangerous. To test this theory, you can do the following: * Get the 2002 number of members from USPA * Get the number of reported jumps made in 2002 from USPA * Get number of incidents in 2002 from USPA * Get 2002 traffic numbers from the Transportation Department * Get 2002 incident report from the Transportation Department Compare data by using a per capita formula and viola - your results. Also, you may check with USPA to see if they have done all of this for you...................................................................... nacmacfeegle 0 #30 June 19, 2003 If you get that concerned, stay at home, lock the doors, bar the windows.....you'll probably die slipping getting out of the shower....... Risk is cumulative, most of us drive and skydive and do other 'dodgy stuff' too, like avalanche surfing or gator baiting. You have to live your life and manage the risks accordingly.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. skreamer 1 #32 June 19, 2003 QuoteAsk them - how many miles a year do you drive? They might answer 20-30 thousand. Then you say if you drive 30,000 miles in a year, you have the same statistical chance of death as me doing 51 skydives in a year. Is that 51 skydives without doing any driving yourself? By your stats if you do 200 jumps a year and drive 30 000 miles pa then boy are you fucked!!!
