Gawain 0 #1 June 21, 2003 For you sports fans that have been carefully following the rants and raves of my professional life, today, was my last day with my troubled job/employer. My family, especially my dad, were concerned about my imminent departure from a Fortune 10 company, where I had been for 10 years. Such mutual investments in time mean lots of benefits, pension, 401K, 4 weeks of vacation, and medical/dental/vision, flex reimbursement to name a few. On the con-side, there is a committee for everything, the benefit and compensation programs are complex and difficult to really understand. The compensation/commission plan is over 200 pages. I begin my new venture on June 30, with a young, much smaller company, whose only mission is growth and the demand for basic discipline is high. The payback is money, plain and simple. The benefits are simple. The compensation plan is simple. The commission schedule is 1/2 page. I can't wait. My new-to-be employer is setting defined goals and clearly explaining the purpose about how these goals were developed, and the mutual rewards for achieving these goals. In short, we're on the same page (partly because there aren't so many pages to get lost within anyway). It is a strange feeling, which I can only summarize as: I feel better now. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
