We do this, Why?

Has anyone yet figured out the logic?

I'm dragging my ass out of bed hours earlier than normal on weekends to drive an hour to the dz. I'm now obsessed with weather forecasts and if I don't like what one has to say, I yell "fuck you" to my screen and keep searching for a forecast that I like. I have to learn what seems to me about 4 hours of maneuvers to be performed in 45 secs. You make a mistake and you could be dead or maimed. I am so bruised and sore, that my best friend is now Advil. Someone told me I should ice the sore area...well in my case right now, I should just sit in the freezer. My whole body is a sore area. Money is flying out of my wallet and I am giving it away with a smile on my face (oh sure here's $25 for the 50 cent piece of plastic I threw into Farmer Jones' manuer pile). We wait to hear our name called (sometimes hours) for the next load, we suit up and slam 40lbs of extra weight on our backs. We load into the plane like sardines. There is no air and it's hotter than hell. But we're all smiling.
When we finally jump, sometimes we spin a bit out of control, sometimes we have a hard opening or line twists and sometimes a hard landing or bad PLF. Then, we cannot wait to get back to manifest to get our name on the board to do it all over again. When the weekend comes to a close, we go home invigorated, but bummed because we have a week of work...cough,cough...post whoring ahead of us. And as the week wears on, we're counting the days. We're also constantly cursing the weather because it is always beautifully sunny during the week while dickhead weatherman is saying "we're watching a system that should arrive around the weekend."

Damn, I now have to wait another week. Part of my brain is scared to death, but the other part HAS to do it. Damn all other social commitments! You have a baby, great, just don't invite me to the christening on a weekend. Graduation parties, bbq's, etc. they need to be held mid-week.

So once again I ask the question: We do this, Why?

It's been almost a year sence I've jumped, so I may have forgoten a little about why I fall from planes
But I seem to remember it having something to do with the fact that once I step foot out of the plane, flying is the only thing that matters..not my bills, not my work, not my whuffo friends, not the drama of life, not my lack of girlfirend.....nothing but the freedom, the freedom of flight, the freedom of enjoying myself and the moment. With only 12 jumps under my belt, some might say I'm a tourst and will be for years to come, but I'm here to be free, and I'm here for the rest of my life.
