Gawain 0 #1 June 22, 2003 This is one of those “you sorta had to be there to hear it” stories, but I’ll do my best. When I am getting ready for bed in the evening, I usually turn on the radio to station KFI/AM640 (those in SoCal probably know of it). It’s a news/talk radio station with a variety of good and often entertaining hosts. The hosts are not the point of the story however. As I pick up a Car & Driver and read about some amazing machinery I don’t expect to ever be able to afford, I hear a commercial come on in the background. It’s some silly jingle and I notice it’s an ad for a dating service. “Big deal” I think. I begin concentrating on the article I was reading about the Bugatti EB16.4 Veyron (8.0L, W-16, 7-speed auto-clutch – a really fast car, only $1.1M). Then the narrator for the ad comes on and I hear, “Now, a dating service that let’s you use the phone!!” Now this is the part where “you sorta had to be there to hear it” because the lady’s voice was expressing this like it was the invention of the f**king light bulb. I burst out in laughter. “Oh my God! The phone! What will they think of next?!” Just one of those whimsical moments, I guess.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
