Cava 0 #26 June 18, 2003 Indeed. I guess I was thinking of great films that only failed in the sense that few people seem to have seen them. Not a failing of the film, only a failing of the general public's taste.
Zenister 0 #27 June 18, 2003 it was definately one of the first movies of that type to go with the "geeks are cool" concept.. Rock Star, Scientist, inter-dimensional traveller...lol.____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. quade 4 #28 June 18, 2003 In no particular order, here are some overlooked flicks I like. Dark Star Little Murders Bell, Book and Candle Timecode The Cube The Iron Giant Broken Arrow Rope October Skyquade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Cava 0 #29 June 18, 2003 Rope! Right on. You're that other person who has seen that movie. How Hitchcock made the film is as interesting as the film itself- the foot markers on the floor, the changing of the pastel paintings of the skyline in the background when the camera was pointed elsewhere. Also the best of many film adaptatons of the Leopold\Loeb murder case. Another one worth seeing is Compulsion, with Orson Welles as Clarence Darrow. jceman 1 #30 June 18, 2003 Ah yes, Dark Star. Someday I have to see that movie straight... One of my favorites in the all time "it's so bad , it's good" category is Phantom Of The Paradise. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
quade 4 #31 June 18, 2003 "Carburetors man, that's what life is all about . . ." I thought Paul Williams did a nice little job on the words and music there.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Meathorse 0 #32 June 18, 2003 "Dark City" "Baseketball" "Final Fantasy" "Arlington Road" was only in the theater for a week here. "Being John Malkovich" dunno about 'failed' but it's definately under appreciated and some old animation that I think is called "Wizards"

quade 4 #34 June 18, 2003 "Baseketball"? Really? Oh dear . . . However, "Wizards" . . . I think I ended up seeing that about 10 times in the movie theaters not because I necessarily liked it, but people kept dragging me to it because they wanted to discuss the animation and film techniques. That and we were like 19 and drunk. Ralph Bakshi being Ralph Bakshi . . . I don't think you could show that in a theater today without some sort of massive protest going on outside. It's pretty offensive on a lot of levels, but then again, it's Bakshi -- whaddya gonna do?quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

ltdiver 3 #39 June 19, 2003 QuoteSomewhere in Time Saw this movie after Christopher Reeve's accident, and reading his engrossing book "Still Me". Kind of had me misty eyed throughout the whole movie because of this. BikerBabe 0 #43 June 19, 2003 You Can Count On Me Great little movie that got rave reviews, but no one saw. I got to see it at the AFI film festival in LA, and the director and actors were all there. Laura Linney gave an incredible performance in this film! It also won the Sundance film festival when it came out.Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! Bakshi's Jewish, so he can get away with it. I mean, c'mon! Mel Brooks did "Springtime for Hitler" and "Hitler On Ice"! happythoughts 0 #50 June 19, 2003 QuoteWell, I was thinking more along the lines of trivializing the Holocaust and Hitler -- bringing it down to the cartoon level. To me that's pretty offensive too. I don't think he trivialized it, I think he was using it as an example of the evils of the "mechanized" world vs the "wizard" world. My fav quote from that movie, "Oh, by the way...here's a little trick that mom showed me when you weren't around..." One of the funniest movies that I have ever seen was a movie called "The life and times of Friar Jacques". No it's not porn. I saw it at a college function. Never made it big, but hysterically funny.
