Sport bikes...

Recommended Posts

I've been bitten by a bug or something, cuz I am just itching to get a sport bike. Never ridden a motorcycle in my life.. and this is what I want to get:

http://www.sportbikez.net/html/showcase.php?showcase=67

Am I gonna die? ;) Is this gonna be like buying a Velocity after 100 jumps?

Anyone wanna talk me into/out of this decision? It's not a real decision anyways, just a thought, so I'm open to discussion. And I'd love to hear comments from sport bike riders out there.

By the way, I'm 21 (read "young and stupid").

ER docs call the DONORcycles for a reason..

and just think of all the jumps you could make with that cash.

Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time

leave me your rig in your will... that bike WILL kill you. other than that it's a great bike, for going straight really really fast. Not a bike you will effortlessly throw into fast corners. American version is limited to 186.5 top speed, until you tweek it, Japanese version is 225 out the box.

why don't you get a 600cc Ninja for your first bike.. that's a good fun learner bike, and won't kill you. 135 mph is still double what any car will be doing out there. the gsx-r 600 & 750 might kill you,

ohhh wait, Kawi makes a 636 cc bike now that is mid range mayhem! you'll have it all, corners, wheelies, speed, bitches riding bitch, everything.

Accelerate hard to get them looking, then slam on the fronts and rollright beside the car, hanging the back wheel at eye level for a few seconds. Guaranteed reaction- Dave Sonsky

funny that bike should pop up again... i just saw something on discovery or whatever on the weekend and they were talking about that very bike. i would think that someone with no bike experience at all starting with that would be like throwing first jump students out with a vx46. you might live, but odds aren't good.

Yes very much so. >:(

Do yourself a favor and first take a motorcycle safety course where they teach you how to control your bike (such as counter steering, breaking, etc, etc, etc) as well as they teach you how to drive in traffic (it's amazing how many untrained motorcyclists don't interact with traffic the proper way). Then if your mind is set on a sport bike (I own one myself, but haven't been riding it all that much lately), start with something like a 600. Believe me, a 600 is still a rocket and will kill you just as much as this other bike. I've been 145 mph at 3000 feet MSL on my Honda CBR600 F3 (so I could go even faster if I was at sea level).

I saw that guy in some Nicholas Cage movie about Orchids where he was always sayin " Ohh Ohh, see that girl? I fucked her ass."'

that guy is a trip.

Are you going to die. Yes. When is up to you.

I bought a 2002 Suzuki GSX-R1000 having only rode a 125. Thought that was pretty stupid when I look back but getting a bussa is seriously silly. It will bite you on the ass in a heartbeat. A friend of mine had one and was recorded doing a 140mph on his ass as he bounced over the finish line on at the local sprints. I wouldn't even dream of trying to ride something like that in the wet.. too easy to put to much power down to quick.

Why not go for a GSX-R 750 or 600. They're fast enough to scare the shit out of you.. lighted and more flickable. Would probably beat a bussa round a track anyone and look the dogs bollocks.

least that way you end up with a 50/50 chance of seeing your next birthday.

I totally agree that he should go for a 600 first, but that's just wrong to say that it won't kill him. A 600 will kill anybody all the time if they're stupid with it. >:( Sorry, I love my motorcycle, but it very much is a death machine and is to date the most dangerous activity I have ever done.

People that ride GSX-R 1000's are scared of that bike. the 1000 is a twitchy wheelie poppin bitch.

Hehe, yea... I suppose I knew the reaction I would get. I probably won't get a bike, but it's something that I've wanted to do. It certainly won't be safe either around the places I live (Atlanta and Dallas). Thanks for your comments, I guess I'll stick to something a bit safer like jumping out of a plane. B|

Sport bikes are a great deal of fun. The one you are looking at is very powerful. You are looking at 1300 cc's. First learn how to handle a 600. Their is a big difference between the two. Getting on this bike would be like making your first jump on a FX80. But it is a bad ass bike.

the 600 is pretty forgiving... I laid mine down damn near 20 times the first couple months riding.. Learning the hard stuff. LIke black top asphault is really really slick when it's hot out. shit like that. the lane paint they use on roads is really slick shit too homie, watch out

went from La Jolla to San Diego at a buck60 on the 900 the whole way. That was reallly scary.

advice to new guy.... don't jerk on the front brake to do a stoppie, squeeze it. DO NOT TAKE MY ADVICE ON ANYTHING

EX-500 then we can all point and laugh.

I don't understand that post. But that's ok.

I guess I'm kind of like canopy nazis when it comes to motorcycles. I love motorcycles, but people need to learn how to ride them (you need to know what counter steering is as well as staying proficient with your breaking techniques). And I also really believe in people learning how to properly interact with traffic if they want to survive (it's all about where to position yourself on the road to be the most visible to all those idiots in the big steel cars).

So putting a novice on a 750 or higher is asking for trouble. Shit putting a novice on any motorcycle is asking for trouble. But novices need to start some where. It's really quite similar to skydiving canopies when you think about it. :):P

here's the biggest thing to remember... you'll learn the bike rather quickly if you have any common sense.. .what you won't learn is other drivers quickly... thats what will probalbly kill you. Drivers treat bikers, sport bikers especially, like shit.. they don't see you and they don't care... if you do get one, and you start splitting lanes... do not rocket up the middle, someone will punch your ticket....
if you last 3 days, you'll probably last 3 weeks, last 3 weeks odds are o.k. you'll last 3 months and so on.... don't get too fuckin comfortable in the saddle,

someone on an EX 500 will be riding alone, they might be riding but there won't be a pack that they could hang with for the day, and if there is a pack.. let me know so I can give em a rolling burnout

Just thought you'd like some input from some one nearer your own age. I'm 18 and been riding for a year. Aprilia RS50 which is a very low powered machine.....already had one crash and cost a bomb to repair it. The insurance is a factor for people our age.....my insurance is 1970 euros a year but if I could afford it id go with somethng in the 600's range like a gsx-r600 or a honda CBR600. Hayabusa!!! Not for your first bike man thats crazy.....but biking is great craic so try getting a few lessons and see where you go from there. good luck.

Dude motorcycles are totally awesome machines. But you need to have your brain wired correctly if you want to survive riding them. Take a MSF safety course. They're cheap and they teach you not only survival techniques but also how to control the machine. Then when you're ready, get some time on a race track in one of those courses. ;)

skydiving is harder because of that whole depth of field triangulation, flying shit thing going on....

on a bike you just need to go slow enough to keep the horizon in front of you... albeit hard to do

Well, my first 'real' motorcycle was the Hayabusa's ancestor, the Katana 1100. Rode it for 11 years, if you ride two-up, you will appreciate the additional horsepower, especially in the Sierras.

I survived it. As I was riding the rocket home I thought I had made a tremendous mistake.

Of course in the last 12 months I have sprained both knees and broken one ankle, so you might ask the smart JP for his opinion.:P
