God I want to believe in our government, but sometimes I wonder...

anarchy is a form of government though. Humans are pack animals, by nature, as we are taught in basic anthropology. A pack is a form of government. Know what I mean, bean?
Government is a central repository of power.
Hah, or lack thereof. Check out some major African countries to get the idea of what I'm talking about.
you would have to exterminate every human being
Sorry I was typing without thinking. Rephrase that to, "government has existed and will exist for as long as humans exist."

edit to add an apology for postwhoring this thread, just got caught up in the excitement, I love anthropology!

Well, as much as atheism is a religion, or as much as a vacuum is a gas.

A pack is a collection of animals. By your definition, bees and ants have governments - and I don't buy that bees have a government.

It is a lot easier to just criticize and complain.

Yes, I agree with this. I am complaining and it is not going to do anything to change the world... The trouble is that it is so hard to know what is actually going on - the only source we have for information is the media really (unless you have some sort of inside source???) and, as we all know from the way they report skydiving stories, their stories are not necessarily accurate. When this war first started, I honestly believed that Bush was doing the right thing - now I'm not so sure. The fact is that I, as most people, will never truly know...

But you're definitely right... sitting here criticizing the government on dropzone.com is doing nothing to change things... guess I'm just venting (or is it post-whoring???), that's all. ;)

The least you can do in payment for the liberty that we do enjoy is to take an interest in current events and get your ass to a polling booth every 6 months.

Gonna take this on a tangent now... sorry...

I picked up mouth at the Ontario airport last night. There was a large group of people waiting for passengers, some holding signs, some in camo. When Lisa finally came down the escalator, she told me that there was a group of guys returning from Iraq on the plane with her.

They came down the escalator together, after all the civilians had gone down. The entire terminal seemed to burst out in cheers and applause. It brought tears to my eyes.

Those guys risked their lives for my freedom. You're right, Kevin. The least I can do for my freedom is try to keep up on the issues and get out to vote.

Sometimes playing stupid is the most coniving lie of all. This allows him to follow a secretive agenda without any visible kind of moral liability. (I think he might be a Sith lord)

We can say to the people of the Iran/Iraq, that it was nothin' personal, just business. Bush has plenty of constituents in the oil business and construction business and it was simple payback for campain support and nurturing his post-presidential job prospects. He is well accomplished on how to get government money into his own little private hands from his previous experience.

So, with September 11th came his scapegoat for milking the American people with them loving it in a Nationalistic fervor. He got to feed his ego as Crusader and feed his backers 10 fold what they invested in his campain. No blood on his hands, just money in the bank.

I apologize. I was referring more to the writer of the article, not you. He has conveniently presented one side of the statistics to add weight to his argument instead of telling the entire story. If he told the entire story it would be much murkier. I've always agreed with our decision to invade Afghanistan. The Taliban harbored and supported UBL and allowed him to sponsor and organize attacks against the US. Contrary to what that writer claims, that has been proven. The attack on Iraq, while I think it was justified, I'm not sure it was necessarily the best option at the time. I don't necessarily think that Bush is an evil lying bastard because he did something I disagree with though.

Those kinds or decisions are never cut and dry. Making decisions based on intel is never easy. It is never complete and always has the possibility of being completely wrong. As an infantry company commander, I had my company attack a porta potty ringed with concertina one time. It was embarrassing.:S But, intel told me certainly that it was an enemy position because they saw obstacles and were constantly seeing enemy soldiers walk by there.:P
