Gawain 0 #1 June 26, 2003 In a dazzling display to prove that the retail world for small office supplies and such has not gone totally numb, Staples today directly fulfilled a manufacturer's rebate to me which was not loaded in their system. I had just purchased a multi-function fax/copier/scanner/printer/PC-Fax and had inquired about the rebate form which was supposed to be provided by the clerk. Well, it wasn't in their system, but their floor model had the promo listed. Not able to find it through other means, they issued me a direct credit instead. I didn't even ask...now, I don't have to wait 4-6 weeks for a check, and I don't have to supply more information feeding some data-consumer-goldmine-data base which would've resulted in more junk mail, spam, telemarketing, etc. Meanwhile, the next time the manufacturer's rep stops by to visit...hmmm... No, my friends, the world is not going to hell in a handbasket, and even if it was, there are still diamonds in the rough, at least in California. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
