AggieDave 6 #1 June 26, 2003 Ever hear/use the jodie "Give me that 'ol Marine Corps spirit"? Now, have you ever heard the old Gospel/Hymn Old Time Religion? Now, 6 years after first hearing that Jodie I realized that it HAS to be based on this gospel song. The song was written quite a long time ago (the bluegrass version I just listened to was recorded in the 1950s). pd190 0 #2 June 27, 2003 Yep, heard it, sung it, did a 15 mile beach run to it! (damn near had a heart attack to it!) There is nothing better than getting 50 of your good buddies together at 0430 for a sunrise beach run. (yea, right!) AD, I'm not sure of the original origins, but I'm pretty sure that you are correct. I think that some of the "Old Timey" jodie songs stem from either gospel backgrounds or big bar room brawls.
