Cricket or Microraven

Recommended Posts

I'm throwing together another rig and I have 2 spare reserves sitting around. I've got 4-5 jumps on Microraven 120's so I have a pretty good idea of what to expect of the mr 135 ( I.e. stall at the shoulders.).

I've never jumped a cricket. The cricket seems like it would pack larger but I haven't compared the numbers and I have never jumped a cricket.

The rig I will be putting this in is large enough to hold a 150 so either will fit fine.

Has anyone jumped both reserves? Which flies better? I am about 140 body weight at the moment.

( and for anyone who doesn't know me, I have 8000 jumps, several thousand crw jumps, and probably 6000 jumps on 7-cell squares :). I know PDs, tempos and smarts all fly better, but this is for an extra rig and I have these 2 (free!) choices available that I already own. Anyone jumped them both and have a preference?

Hi Wendy!

A buddy used his Cricket after a crw wrap about 3 years back. I saw his landing and it looked OK to me. He did a big flare, toggles right down - I know that as I have a photo. Can't recall exactly what the touchdown was like, but I don't recall any complaints. His weight has always been 180 or slightly more, so he was loading it heavily enough for a pre- PD-Reserve design.

The numbers I've seen on canopy volumes show the MR 135 is quite a bit smaller than the Cricket (147) -- eg 305-315 in^3 vs. 365-385 on the Jump Shack volume list. (But Poynters says 350 for the Cricket as a reserve.) [Edit: changed to MR 135 numbers, not 120]

The Cricket is also the next size down from the classic Firelite. Only did a few jumps on them but I thought they flew fine.

Let's see what others remember about them.

Mini- Cricket.

The cricket is a 147 sq ft canopy.
The Mini-Cricket is 130 sq ft.

I have 4 rides with a Micro-Raven 135 of which one landing was on my back.

I have two rides on a Mini-Cricket with both being stand up landings.

All of the above was probably @ an exit weight of about 210-215lbs.

Cheers,
