I think it is the result of the many years of Catholic school and I am dealing with transferance from the nuns to Jessicakes. It's just a theory, but I do believe it has some merit. I kind of wish the moderators would give our Jessicakes the power to stamp our posts with a gold star, when they are written well. Now, when it comes to using metaphors and setting the scene, I am much more concerned with Michele. She too, should have the gold star power. jceman 1 #16 July 2, 2003 I do try to use proper grammar and usage, but it's not due to any grammar police or Ms. 'Cakes. I simply want to use these because that is the way I was taught; one's command of his or her language and its use is a reflection of the value one puts into that language. It is fun at times to write in dialect or slang, especially on a fun thread, but I believe if a person wants to be taken seriously that person should write properly. That doesn't mean I go over everything with a fine toothed comb or that I agonize over every sentence's structure to polish my prose. It does mean I try to write to the standards I was taught and it does irritate me when I later see a mistake that I didn't catch. Yes, I did consider majoring in English, but was deterred by the thought of teaching a herd of teenaged nerds like me. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.
