turtlespeed 226 #1 July 3, 2003 First of all... I work in the construction industry. Jobs there are come and go for the majority. (as estimators go) So, I rolled in @ 5:45am to the office. It was quiet as usual. I get more work done in the AM than the rest of the day. Anyway, the pres. of the co. came in at 7 and said that we needed to talk, and to meet me in his office in about 5 min. Well with all the bad publicity about the economy by the media, I thought that this was it! So he started off by saying that I was not the only one that this was going to happen to... So, ok, I was thinking that I needed a big Box and that this was going to be an Extremely long weekend... So then he just kinda says that he knows that I have been there almost 2 years - (My personal longest) - but that things are changing in the Co. So, I'm like ok, let's not drag this out...just say it...and he did! He said that all the work that I have been doing is good, and he is giving me double the percentage that all the other people are recieving. I just sat there in shock, thinking, Huh? OK, so then after that he says that I'm not quite "Cheif Estimator", but that is coming as well. So maybe next year. Soooo, since this is my first raise as an office bum - BEER! I'm gonna celebrate by leaving early and going on out to the DZ (If I can) and toting along at least one case of beer for y'all! Have a happy 4th ClintI'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
Brains 2 #2 July 3, 2003 Congrats man. Good estimators are hard to come by. Sounds like you are consistently estimating jobs and not undercutting them. That makes more money for your boss and he is cool enough to recognize that without you, he wouldn't be making as much. When times do get tough (and they will) you are someone he will keep. Good job. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.
Steel 0 #3 July 3, 2003 I just got a raise of -$27./hr from my peak income in 2001 or would that be more accurately described as a pay cut. Or should I compare it to my last contract making it a raise of -$13./hr or a pay cut as you may call it. Or maybe a raise from my current contract paying $0./hr. Yes that is definately a raise from my current contract and at least its a tech job. In anycase I find that talking about salaries in IT/Telecom ever since 6/2001 has been a really depressing conversation. If I could make a wish, I think I'd pass. Can't think of anything I need No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound. Nothing to eat, no books to read.

turtlespeed 226 #6 July 3, 2003 Ok, but I think you should know how much that tab is before you offer. Not like I'm trying to look a gift horse in the mouth or anything, and I do appreciate your offer, but the people at this DZ can put alot of "Blue Balls" down in one night. Not to mention the blue margaritas....Just e-mail me your credit card # and I'll take you up on that ....I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
