AggieDave 6 #1 February 15, 2002 This is more of a question for HH: How much bandwidth does your site suck down? You posted something joking about that but now I'm curious. Is there a noticable spike when Clays online, or is it pretty steady during certain hours?"Alright, at 4500 lets break it, turn 360 and track away..." sangiro 26 #2 February 15, 2002 Dave,About 60 GB per month. That's 20 GB more than what comes standard with my dedicated server, so there is a small extra charge for Clay's fetish... Safe swoopsSangiro
AggieDave 6 #3 February 15, 2002 That's pretty hardcore, man! I wonder how that compares with Pilot Dave's server, yes I realize that those are two different animals dedicated file server vs. a web server, but it would be an interesting comparison.Another question, looking at your logs, whats some of the more interesting domains that people come from? I'm kinda curious to see if theres any alphabet soup agencies there or something crazy like that...(basically its late, I'm not tired and I'm goofing off on the net..."Alright, at 4500 lets break it, turn 360 and track away..." pilotdave 0 #4 February 15, 2002 QuoteI wonder how that compares with Pilot Dave's serverBeen quiet for a while (havent posted anything about it on the NG for a while), but when it's busy I send out about 15 gigs a week, or something around 60 a month. This is really my absolute maximum though. Typical is more like 7 gigs per week. My log analyzing program seems to have lost some functionality recently and I cant get a weekly or daily report anymore. What I do know is that since november 21, 2000, I have sent out a total of 366 gigs, 67409 files. I've had over 81,000 connections (although each download is really another connection). Total connection time is 13,045.5 hours. Thats a LOT of bored skydivers! I've also had over 1000 uploads for a total of 7 gigs. Most of the uploads however have been warez and pirated movies which i delete right away (and now filter for so they dont get uploaded anymore). Just for the record, my log file is up to 72 megs.By the way, I added a forwarding page when you go to http://www.skydivingmovies.com which keeps stats on who visits. It's only been up for a few days so it's not too interesting yet, but you can see what domains people are coming from at http://extremetracking.com/open;geo?login=skyftp. 60 gigs per month of text and some pictures is pretty impressive compared to my 60 (max) per month of videos. I've had days where 4 or 5 people downloaded 100+ meg videos so the bandwidth starts adding up real fast.Dave
AggieDave 6 #5 February 15, 2002 I wonder how many actual hits HH's server gets a week/day/month/hour..."Alright, at 4500 lets break it, turn 360 and track away..."

sangiro 26 #7 February 15, 2002 Dave,I need to go mine my logs a bit for hits and stuff like that (obviously a lot of trackers log a hit every time the server is called, not very useful unless if you want to know about server load) As for usage, based on banner displays, I had a little over 1.2 M page views in January. sangiro 26 #9 July 7, 2003 Dave, I was futzing around in my stats a bit tonight and thought I'd post an update to this thread. I've attached 2 graphs. One shows the bandwidth usage over the last year. It was about 60 GB/month when you originally asked this question and has gone up to above 100 GB/month. No indications that this will slow down. It's a good problem to have but a problem nonetheless. I've also attached a Page View graph. Obviously the bandwidth curve follows this one pretty closely. And finally, just to round off the picture, the server received 24,922,207 requests/hits in June 2003. Post away!Safe swoops Sangiro
Fast 0 #10 July 7, 2003 I don't know much about what server you are running or anything like that, or what log analyzing software you have, but one that I have found to give some really readable data is: http://www.mrunix.net/webalizer/ I have run it on my sites log files, it helped me realize why my cable modem provider was so mad ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. sangiro 26 #11 July 7, 2003 I use Analog with Report Magic. Don't worry, I have a lot of cool detailed reports. I just dropped this into Excel to share. I've used Webalizer before. It's nice. Safe swoops Sangiro
