Corruption buster...

Recommended Posts

Pretty interesting. I went to see The Dead last week in Camden. Had a great time, it was very reminiscent of the old days when Jerry was alive. Lots of heads doing the whole tour and supporting themselves by selling tie dyes, candles, incense, food, jewelry, etc. I'm talking rows and rows of big tents set up in the parking lot.

Well, the cops and security were going all around the lot to the vendors and saying, "Do you have a permit?" Of course they didn't, so they would take what they wanted. Saw a few cops on horse back with bags of goods on the back of the horse.

I was out at the bar last night with a friend and his friend whom I've met a few times. She happens to be an investigative reporter for one of the local news stations. Well, she thought it was interesting and would make a good story. So when Phish comes to town at the end of the month she's going to do a little investigating ;)

Now the question is.... Is the story going to soil all the cops or just the bad ones??

I think that people are intelligent enough to realize that not all cops are bad cops, and that not all cops are good cops. A story like this will, IMO, bring to light the facts that some cops are a little less trustworthy than others. If some cops don't like this then maybe they shouldn't just turn their heads when they see it happening.

It will also hilight the fact that too many cops think they can get away with anything they want with groups of people they don't like for being "different"; whether they're Deadheads, anti-war protesters, gays, blacks, Arabs....or those weird skydivers. You can't win with cops like them, it doesn't matter if you're keeping your act together. If they don't like you, they'll mess with you and that sucks.

You have too much faith in people and the press. :P

Any cop that that looks away is just as guilty. As for my parents. They assisted the DA (who lost his job because of this) in his county wide bust of taverns with illegal gambling machines. Which of course busted the Police chief's bar and the bar if the brother of Tommy Tompson--former WI govenor/Current sec. of health and human services in Bush's cabinet.

But do you think they got any good press for it? Nope. The papers trashed the investigation and bust. Not because the bar owners weren't breaking the law... it was a "How dare they do this--those machines don't hurt anyone" type of thing.

Of course my Mom stumbled onto the investigation while investigating a domestic abuse incident where the hubby beat the crap out of the wife because she lost all the rent money in one of the machines.

So PillyKev, as a favor to me, could you ask your friend to prominently highlight the good cops she runs into in her investigation? ... heck and maybe even the difficulties they have dealing with the bad ones. That would make a good... good -vs-evil story.

Actually, I don't have a lot of faith in either. I do feel that people who can't figure out the difference between a good cop and a bad cop are (a) in the minority, and (b) too dumb to worry about.
