billvon 3,121 #1 July 9, 2003 So it looks like Charles Taylor of Liberia is on his way out. That's a good thing in my book; there's strong evidence that he harbored Al Qaeda operatives before and after 9/11. We actually have a pretty good reason for wanting to see him deposed, even beyond the fact that he's a brutal and cruel dictator of a country we helped create. Pat Robertson, though, has invested millions in Taylor's gold mines, and is attacking the US for its position on Liberia: “This country [Liberia] has had a close relationship with the United States over the years, but of late, the last, oh, four, five, six years, the United States State Department has tried as hard as it can to destabilize Liberia and to bring about the very outcome we’re seeing now. They had no endgame, they have no plan of what to do, they only wanted to destroy the sitting president and his government, and as a result, the place is being plunged into chaos.” Nothing like a few million in investments to change someone from a cruel dictator and supporter of terrorism to a god-fearing, righteous leader of a democratic society. lawrocket 3 #2 July 9, 2003 "Patric" Robertson? Sounds like he's spent too much time in France. Hopefully Carl's Jr. will start doing commercials railing on him, as well. I've never liked that cat. My wife is hotter than your wife.

TheAnvil 0 #4 July 9, 2003 Agreed. Charles Taylor is a disgrace. Liberia, like many other Third World nations, is emererging from the chaos caused by US-Soviet machinations during the Cold War. Eritrea-Ethiopia was a result of that as well. The US supported a lot of evil SOBs who were willing to remain in the US sphere of influence vice the Soviet sphere throughout the Cold War, and a lot of humanitarian fiascos resulted. We'll be cleaning up crap like this for years. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
