jraf 0 #1 July 12, 2003 I am a bit bored so I will tell you about my short experience of working for Disney - all of you who are thinking of going or joining beware: 1. Any sign of individuality is totally prohibited. Tatoos are not allowed and must be covered. Haircuts must be like the '80s and facial hair Butch style only. No necklecess allowed. They are kind enough to allow you to wear a watch. 2. "They" are everywhere. There is no empowerment. If you ask any manager of any rank to improve something the answer is always "they won't let us do it" Who "THEY" are remains a mystery. 3. Guests are milked horribly and need to absolutely comply with Disney regulations. Even though you are paying in excess of $300 a night they will be rude to you if you don't adher to the mainstream. 4. Employees are trated like a commodity. It definitely is a hire/fire company. You are expendible, and you are made aware of it 5. It is strange how people come to this fake world and take their kids to see the fakeness - for the same money you can go to a real safari in Kenya, see Paris or London or do whatever you want. 6. I believe that Disney is in fact a company owned by Dr. Evil and Michael Eisner is No. 3 if not No. 2 himself right up there with miss Varvukhiuna. His left eye is definitely artificial and he has been spotted wearing the black eye band while on his way to Dr. Evil's headquarters deep beneth the Magic Kingdom.jraf Me Jungleman! mccordia 74 #5 July 12, 2003 I realy hope to work at www.Pixar.com someday (and move to the USA for better jumping), and they are under Disney contract. But after Finding Nemo, they'll only be doing one more film under the Disney contract, and then (because of fights with disney) they'll move to another producer... So I won't be working under Disney (heck..I'll probably won't even work at pixar...but who cares..:)JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

quade 4 #10 July 13, 2003 Typical short-timer disillusionment. Sorry to hear it left a bitter taste in your mouth, but it happens. Most people lose the pixie-dust at some point. I think I lost it about 28 years ago, but I continue to work for the Company because it's home and pays the rent -- ya just have to be realistic and understand it is a business. The Company has always been ultra-conservative as far as the grooming & behaviour standards for the Parks goes, but is quite liberal for the other parts of the Company. I can think of one particular President of WDI who's office was decorated in hundereds of photographs of people giving him the finger. Eisner isn't the evil in the Company -- his yes-men and toadies are. Unfortunately, one of those weasles got to be the President of Parks & Resorts a few years back and totally f'd things up. Maybe you've heard of Paul Pressler? Fortunately, he's gone back to selling t-shirts in malls -- he's now CEO of The Gap -- but it'll be years fixing the quality and traditions he destroyed -- if that's even possible. The Company really isn't as totally evil as people make it out to be, but then again, you're right in that it's not a total fairy-tale, happiest place on earth either. Then again -- it is a business.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Iflyme 0 #12 July 13, 2003 QuoteThen again -- it is a business.Exactly! While Walt Disney may have had a wonderful dream, today Disney -- like just about every other company out there -- is nothing more than a tool for shareholders to increase their wealth. jraf 0 #14 July 13, 2003 That is true, you and I agreing on things is a bit...unorthodox, but then again why not The fact is that if you sell yourself as the magic family place you should act upon it. Disney is run like a factory and the customer is there to be ripped off as much as possible. The biggest concern is liability. A customer might be bleading to death, but a lifeguard is not allowed to put on a turniquet because of liability. The list goes on. Quade, with all due respect brother, but the story of Good Eisner vs. Bad Cronies is a myth similar to the one about good Joe Stalin. It is the CEO who makes the corporate culture. I he does not see what is going on in the company he is a crap CEO. If he does not care - ditto.jraf Me Jungleman! Me have large Babalui. happythoughts 0 #15 July 13, 2003 QuoteWell, thanks to a CEO stock option, the lights are surely on at Eisner's place. All of them. In one of the biggest stock-option paydays ever, Eisner made a killing--as much as $565 million pretax, according to the Los Angeles Times For Floridians, the House of the Mouse is a bit too pricey. We all know where it goes also, into Eisners pocket. I understand that he has hugh responsibilities. The CEO of a major company should make a good living, all for it. However, when this came out, there were actually protesters. The word vampire was used a lot.
