Muggles and Whuffos

Recommended Posts

Anyone else notice the similarities? Both are unaware of the 'other' world. They're unenlightened. The few that are aware don't understand it and are scared of it. They turn up at the dz and wander around staring at the jumpers like they've stumbled into Diagon Alley and can't quite believe what they're seeing. Muggles make me laugh :)

yep. noticed the same thing.
but i guess its quite common. and we have to realise, that we all are a kind of whuffo or muggle, when we pop our noses into stuff we don't understand (soccer, baseball, women....) :o:P

Whats a muggle?

Read Harry Potter. Catch up on the "latest lingo". Besides, you'll really enjoy it; they're great books for kids and adults.
As for muggles, well, it goes both ways. Wizards and witches don't understand how they live without magic, just like skydivers don't understand how whuffos live without jumping!

I'm not really into that whole reading thing, so I was going to rent the movie later today...is that worth it, or should I just give up and open the books?

I would say do both, and there's a reason for that. The movies are extremely entertaining, plus they bring the book to life. Most of the characters show up EXACTLY as they are described in the books, and if you can't visualize very well (although I'll tell you it's never been as easy to picture a character as it is from the descriptions in these books), then the movies help you do that.
However, there is so much more information in the books, plus, as with most books that become movies, the books allow you to see inside the character and into their heads much better than the movie.
If you're not much of a reader, don't worry about it. Just trust me, I've seen several people who NEVER read pick up one book right after the other and get through each one in a matter of days. They are easy reads, and they are enthralling, so that you don't want to put them down. FROM THE VERY FIRST PAGE!!!

It's true; I've heard lots of skydivers talking about it and actually saw one of the guys at our DZ reading it one day while he would wait for the next load.
They really are good for kids and adults. I read the first book before my 12-year-old sister ever touched it. My whole family has read all but the newest one, and I can't wait to get my hands on it...as soon as my dad finishes with my copy!

Muggle is also an old time name for a reefer, as in joint or doobie. JK couldn't have been unaware of that when she chose the word.

I was asked by a Dursley type muggle at Perris a week ago if we have to hold our breath until we got down to where the air is breathable. Told him we do it all the time and that's why we use AAD's, because sometimes one of us will turn blue and pass out. His eyes got real big.

it kinda threw me for a loup when Harry's Aunt was supposed to be a petite blond. Dudley was supposed to be blond too. :S how could they mess something like that up?

Wow instead of encouraging new jumpers, you snicker and laugh at them....that really inspires me to go jump;)

Yes, but she also supposedly looked horselike, and they did a good job there!
The only other complaint I have is that Ron is supposed to be taller, but perhaps that will be the case in the next movie!

I'm 38 and read all of them except for the most recent one. Waiting for all the hub bub to die down.
They are all good book for old and young people alike.
Well, as long as the child in you is still alive. I have yet to meet a skydiver whose inner child was not alive and kicking!
