mccordia 74 #3 July 7, 2003 If a Telemarketer calls you, start asking him or her therse questions right away, and pause (like you are writing answers down) Who is this..could you spell that for me please? Could you tell me how you got my phonenumber? Is this your fulltime or partime job? Where is your office located and where do you live? How long have you been a telemarketeer? Do you like the work? How much money do you maken? Do you have a good medical/dental plan? Thank you for the information, could I have your (home)phonenumber so I call you in the future? Have a nice day... If the person on the phone refuses to answer, give him/her these questions Why won't you answer my questions? Just give me your homenumber so I can call you back (they'll usualy hang up) If they want to know why you are asking: I always like to know who I'm talking to. If they want to know what will happen with their answers They will be treated confidentialy If they keep asking questions It's important you answer my questions! If you could just answer me right away this would not take so long. I can, and will not answer questions about private things you are not allowed to know anything about!! If they are anoyed or displeased hey...YOU are the one calling me! If you don't like talking to me...just hang up or the best one (if they don't answer) So you have problems answering intimate questions over the phone to perfect strangers for a research project for which you see no practical use? If they answer this witha yes, then ask them why they are in this line of work and hang up..JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

For one thing, it has the ".gov" extension, and for another, I got the address off a news report on the tv.She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

fudd 0 #7 July 7, 2003 Just listen to them for 30 seconds, then they think they've got a good shot at selling you something. Then make up an excuse like: "Please hold a sec, the doorbell rang." Go back to whatever you where doing and leave them waiting. Check back after about 15 minutes. if they're still there, repeat untill they hang up. I belive I've been blacklisted at the telemarkters, because they never call me anymore....
BPO 0 #8 July 7, 2003 At our office we get a lot of calls from telemarketeers, a while ago we decided to try to ask a lot of questions before the telemarketeer could ask them himself.. as a result we were called back a few times in the next hours with nothing but namecalling.. they are such bad losers! edited: can't type... andy2 0 #9 July 7, 2003 thanks skymama, i signed up. I've had telemarketers get pissed at us for playing around with them and call us back cussing us out. DYEVOUT 0 #10 July 7, 2003 QuoteThe government has set up a National "Do not call" website. We registered our number on a thing like that last year - it works !! No more telemarketers. . . . Now if we could only do something about those drunken retards dialing wrong numbers at 2:00 a.m., asking for Judy. She must be an ugly slut, because everyone who calls for her is smashed, and all calls are around closing time (when beer goggles are firmly in place). ----------------=8^)---------------------- "I think that was the wrong tennis court." Then we could 'return to sender' all of the junk mail. Win/winI am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried

happythoughts 0 #13 July 8, 2003 Quotemke everyone go back to junk mail. Then we could 'return to sender' all of the junk mail. Even if it is not valuable to me, it must be valuable to others, otherwise no one would buy the advertised products and the mailings would cease. Therefore, I try to forward it on to others who may wish to recieve it. Ever notice those handy "business reply" "no postage necessary" envelopes? Take junk mail from one envelope and put it in the envelope from another company. I let them junk mail each other now. I feel it is ecologically sound. I don't throw it away, so it is kind of like recycling. Who knows...maybe the guys at the furniture company may need bowling coupons. Just trying to help. happythoughts 0 #14 July 8, 2003 Quoteor maybe it was set up by the telemarketers to get a list of people's phone #'s that actually work! I don't know if they still do it, but Blockbuster video used to sell their phone number list. They made huge money doing it. When people bought it, they got a fairly accurate list. Also, even if people went through the trouble of getting an unlisted number, they were now on the list.

TitaniumLegs 8 #16 July 8, 2003 I used to do that. The junk mailers have caught on. One thing they do is make sure your personal info is printed all over the junk, so be careful what you send back (or forward). Another tirck is they print the form so that you have to line up part of their address in the window of the envelope. Your info is printed exactly on the opposite side, so it lines up with their address. It becomes very tricky to send it back without including your info. If you want to take it a level higher, include some stuff to jam their auto-sort/reader machines. Staples are good, but they can detect metal now. Packing tape (the kind with embedded string) is good. Glue can work. I might try some glue in a small zip-lock baggie (so it doesn't dry before they open it). (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me. happythoughts 0 #17 July 8, 2003 QuoteOne thing they do is make sure your personal info is printed all over the junk, so be careful what you send back (or forward). I noticed that. Mostly just on the order forms, not on all the pages. It doesn't have to be all mail. The Sunday newspaper food coupon section is great to pass around. With telephone people, I have some different stuff. If you immediately want to get rid of them, ask them "...if they have a moment to talk about Jesus" or "...do you attend church regularly". My roommate and I like to work "...what are you wearing?" into the conversation. It can be a challenge, but we score that higher than some other questions. Random phrases are good for keeping a conversation going, "...my sister has a cat that with the same color as that...oh, I thought you said something else...don't you like cats?" I have a lot of free time.
Galen 0 #18 July 8, 2003 Marketing services are trying to down play it saying, "it's a good thing, now we can focus on the population that wants to get call". OK, that's not an exact quote but it was along those lines. Is there anyone out there that actually enjoys getting those calls. Respect the Dolphin
Galen 0 #19 July 8, 2003 I think the donotcall list only goes into effect in Oct. However, polticians, charities, and those you already have a business relationship with (phone company, cable, etc.) are excluded from the donotcall law. SpeedRacer 1 #20 July 14, 2003 Hey, I've got a problem with charities calling me up. Charities are not covered by the "do not call" list, because they're non-profits. But these guys call me up almost every day. I think years back I gave in to some unsolicited phone shpiel for a charity for state troopers, and now they won't leave me alone. There are other charities as well. Usually they do the thing with "well the gold sponsor is $50 and you get a dumb decal that you'd never put on your car and some nasty jars of jam. and the silver sponsor is $40 and you get....." so which can we put you down for?" I've made it a policy to no longer give to charities that do phone solicitations, but they just won't go away. how can I make them not call me again?
