skybytch 273 #1 July 14, 2003 Back in the mid-90's, my kid and I were hatin' life in an apartment in town. A couple friends had recently purchased 5 acres in the country and needed help with the payments, so they invited us to move in. When we arrived the place was pretty bare. A major fire had come through a couple of years ago and taken out two outbuildings and a few trees. The property sits on hillside and is covered with oak trees; there was so much undergrowth that we couldn't walk the perimeter without doing some bushwhacking. I stopped by for the night last week. Eight years and lots of $$ and grunt work have turned the place into a park - it's beautiful. Check it out!
skybytch 273 #2 July 14, 2003 I passed the James Dean memorial, on Highway 41 east of Paso Robles, last week too. I'd passed it numerous times before in the past, but this time I decided to stop. It's kinda cool.

Muenkel 0 #5 July 14, 2003 Bytch, What is the reason the James Dean memorial is located where it is? Is that the location of his car accident or where he grew up? Chris _________________________________________ Chris

skybytch 273 #8 July 14, 2003 The accident was about 700 yards east of the memorial site; IIRC it was right where the 46 from Bakersfield and the 41 from Fresno come together. Semi-interesting tidbits - the memorial was conceived and paid for by a Japanese guy who loved James Dean. The Hearst family donated the peice of dirt it sits on. Historical markers can be quite educational.
skybytch 273 #9 July 14, 2003 QuoteWOW... I need to get down for a visit. Yup it is. And yes you do need to go visit; if you haven't seen it for awhile you'll be blown away (I was!).
