BASE813 0 #1 July 14, 2003 I recently posted a post with my general view of journalists. I seemed to have offended someone........... My apologies for offending this person - but I still stand by my view that generally journalists are more geared to selling a story than reporting the cold hard truth. Was I really that out of order in stating this??? - Would like the opinion of other people on journalists and whether my comments truely deserved the "backlash" from one person - So maybe I do have a negative view of journalists - but I think generally people do think this???? but maybe they dont??!?!?! Be safe always.....................

I'd like to read it and then I will tell you what I have experienced with journalists."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

nacmacfeegle 0 #9 July 14, 2003 I'm guessing Michael is referring to this post.. ".......... if journalists are quoting stuff from here then we all need to think before they post - cause we all know how journalists fucking twist anything you say to make a story basically sell - they aint into communicating the truth - they are into selling!! " As opposed to his 2 posts in the thread promising torture/pain to the culprit (including a confused reference to the USMC tampering incident), one post lambasting the BPA, and another querying the use of rigger's seals..... Yup, I think we should take his advice and consider carefully what we post.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. wildblue 7 #10 July 14, 2003 QuoteReports vary... Some have seen a Stenopad of Annoyance, others a Stack of Post It Notes of Spite. I don't buy the "Stack of Post It Notes of Spite" -- she writes like a 3 year old, they don't make post it notes big enough. I have this mental image of her with an oversized pencil, scowl on her face, tongue hanging out, intent on forming the letters of my name perfectly... it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
Malev 0 #11 July 14, 2003 QuoteI still stand by my view that generally journalists are more geared to selling a story than reporting the cold hard truth. Was I really that out of order in stating this? It was inappropriate in the context of a fatality thread in the Incidents forum, and you were quite correctly informed of this. What is out of order, is this thread - which you could have made purely about journalistic ethics, but is really a thinly-veiled personal attack. Gravitymaster 0 #12 July 14, 2003 Your views on journalism aren't what pissed someone off. It was because you expressed them in the "Incidents Forum" even though several people including me, kept reminding you "Incidents" wasn't the appropriate place for such a discussion. If you are still having trouble making the distiction between a Topical Forum and one like "Talk Back", perhaps one of the moderators can simplify the rules enough for you to understand them. MrHixxx 0 #17 July 14, 2003 Well, I think you have to qualify the writing of a journalist when doing their "job" or if they are a public figure of any reknown. Everything they say is their product or rather their corporation's product. So under these circumstances, their writing is given under the duress of job security, they are really just the whipped children of a conglomorate. Now speaking to a journalist off the record for their own opinion is another matter. In those circumstances, you are likely to get some insights. The whole thing is like dealing with a lawyer. They are only trustworthy when working for you (sometimes) and when employed by another interest they are just plain toxic. -Hixxxdeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
nacmacfeegle 0 #18 July 14, 2003 Hey folks calm down, this is a very emotional incident. Its not an incident that could have been avoided, it was a deliberate act, and one that will always be in the back of our minds. And thats just not right, we shouldn't have to worry about our own people doing this to us. If a certain well known skydiver/journalist/Texan hottie is giving you grief via PM, sort it out via PM. Peace out folks....-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Michele 1 #19 July 14, 2003 Nacmac said it. If it's addressed via pm, then leave it in pm's. Additionally, I have certain views on this subject, and how we help/hurt a situation as skydivers. I haven't yet had enough coffee to have managed to get my tact hat on yet, so I shall refrain from that post for the nonce. I will, however, try to address this a bit later, if this thread is not locked down in the mean time. If anyone is truly interested in addressing the question, and not just rail about how shitty people are, then calm down, and keep the personal shit in pm's...otherwise, like a poster said, it is just coming across as a personal lashing out at another person here. Which is, ultimately, uncalled for, and may not actually be what is intended by the poster.
