FliegendeWolf 0 #1 July 15, 2003 Tomorrow evening, I join the Unemployed Skydivers of America. I'm starting to think that it was a bad idea to decide to take a year of from school and move to Boston right now, what with the economy and all. Vibes that I find some work out there, please!A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

DYEVOUT 0 #4 July 15, 2003 Look into some form of harlotry. Oft I have thought that, were I to be found wanting for employment, the harlotry gig would be sweet. Man-whoreism. . . . . The next big thing. P.S. You might want to check with the FliegendeWolfette prior to your career selection. FliegendeWolf 0 #5 July 15, 2003 Cut and paste from a PM I just sent: Quote As I recently finished my Masters in Music in Michigan, I sent out a bunch of applications for Doctoral programs, and one to Harvard. Well, I wasn't admitted, but I called the professor who chairs my department and he told me that out of about 30 applications that they took seriously (the short list), I was third on the list, but they only had room for two. . However, he told me that he was very disappointed that they could not accept me - he had even petitioned the admissions committee to accept a third student - and has invited me to sit in on his classes anyway. When I mentioned the idea of reapplying, he told me that he would really like to see me reapply again, even if he couldn't make any promises or recommendations at the time. As it turns out, Ali (my girlfriend) was admitted to another program in music at Harvard (a different one), and her adviser has been bending over backwards to try to accommodate me. She has tried to get me a teaching job at Harvard for the next year, but because Harvard doesn't handle enrollment until classes begin, they do not know how many instructors they need until the semester begins. So I have no guarantee that there will be a position there, but I know that I have at least two (and I'm pretty sure there's a third) faculty members pushing for me over there. I guess I made a good impression when I interviewed! So, I'm planning on spending the next year out there and getting a new application together. Specifically, I would like to get my Rocky Horror paper published (the one I'm giving at the conference on Saturday) ... having given it at the conference will be a plus, but having it published will be a BIG plus. And I'd like to learn German, too. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

Yeah I'm still unemployed, but it's not like I've been diligently looking either. I've been so burnt out in my last job (code whore for the last 6 years) and it just wasn't doing any good for my physical & mental health. Since leaving my old job, I've been volunteering at my church's dining hall serving over 120 needy folks daily. Just something different for me to do and helps to keep me from getting lazy.My other ride is the relative wind.
