Giving your body permission to heal.

Recommended Posts

When I started AFF at the beginning of June, I went gang busters for four weekends in a row and then took a trip to Orlando for some tunnel training. I found I was giving myself all this pressure to hurry up and graduate. Well, I'm grounded temporarily (looks like 2 weekends in a row) due to a nasty sinus infection (primarily in the ear canals) that seems to resist every med I have tried. Today, I was put on a pretty kick ass anti-biotic.

My point is, this time has given my mind a chance to slow down and practise what I have learned in my mind and through exercises. I'm so close to graduating AFF, I can taste it. But it is vital we allow our bodies to heal, so they can be in their best form when needed.

I'm writing this to say it is OK to take some time off if you don't feel 100%. The sky will wait.

Good health and safe skydiving everyone,
Chris

I've heard of ppl getting sick from the tunnel before, too. :S

Take care of yourself man, and remember, you have the rest of your life to get one more jump, you don't have to push yourself that hard. Its hard not to, but slowing it down can be very good sometimes.:)

I'm proud of you, Chris. :)not jump when you really want to. I grounded myself this weekend after one jump on Saturday and weeks of not jumping (due to my trip) because I was feeling physically exhausted. I really wanted to jump, though I think that ultimately I did the right thing. The sky will always be there, right? Anyway, we all know that you will soon be getting your license and kicking all of our butts up there. B|

Edited to add: (((((((Vibes)))))))) Get better soon!

eh...sounds like a lot of bullshit to me. Suck it up and push yourself, it'll make you stronger in the long run.

Any good trainer will tell you...when you over train you leave yourself open to injury. The same holds true in skydiving. If you are tired stop! That "just one more jump" can leave you injured, or worse. Good advice to listen to your body.

I can't believe my eyes/ears!!! I guess you have been listening to what I have been saying all this time LOL:P

Thanks for bringing that up; I know there are plenty of people out there who get back in the air too early after injuries/illnesses!
By the way, how did you like the tunnel? I went to Orlando after failing level 3 twice, and I learned SO much while I was there. Things have been mostly a piece of cake since I got back!

I have friends that work in the tunnel, and they don't get sick more than the normal person does.

I've done lots of flying in the tunnel, and I haven't gotten sick.

I think if you go some where and push yourself when you are already run down, you'll get sick.

The tunnel was great! I had an awesome coach and I did 20 minutes. It took me a while to really get the hang of it, but I made continuous progress as I progressed thru each 2 minute session. It was an awesome feeling to do those 360's and then stop them on a dime.

Hell, yes, it felt good! I only did 10 minutes, but I learned to do 360's AND to de-arch, and I learned how much it sucks if you happen to flip over!!!
I worked with Rusty...he was really cool, and I would love to go back. Everyone at the DZ told me how much the learning curve improves in the tunnel, and now I'm a firm believer in that!
Glad you enjoyed it!
