File Sharing

Direct Connect! You can share any types of files, and it comes WITHOUT spyware.

Plus, it allows you to resume downloads from people if the connection was lost, or if you close the program.

But the coolest thing is, you get into servers based on how many gigs you are sharing... on my computer, I was sharing 40 gigs, and so I could get into the 40 gig and up servers, which means that all 300 people on that server have 40 gigs each of movies, music, porn :D.

Yeah I've used WinMX and Bearshare, but they both seemed to die out and not really work anymore... I haven't even tried them in the last year or so. But if you want to send 1 file to another person, I use AIM.

to get direct connect, just type "direct connect" in yahoo search engine or something similar, and you get your choice between NeoModus Direct Connect, and DC++ Direct Connect... I've only used DC++, but it works for me. I don't know how they are different, but they operate on the same basic principle. Direct Connect is a little confusing at first, but read the help section and mess around with it for a few minutes, and then its easy.

p.s. I am not related to direct connect or anything like that, I just really like it. :)

anybody tries Soulseek yet?

Heard from an avid music downloader that it is a great program with no spyware

The issue isn't so much the spyware now - its companies like the RIAA watching those on PPP software and logging their IP addy. They then go to the ISP and ask for the personal info, then file a lawsuit against those with the larger illegal amount of files. Spyware has nothing to do with this

Not unless you know how to completly spoof your IP addy and all other relevant info.

So, when someone asks for a decent program to find music with, your concern doesn't really apply, since it goes for all applications out there. Now spyware doesn't come with all aplications. Hence my question, anyone used it yet?

You could alwase do wardriving and if you are woried about MAC add. I have heard their are programms to spoof that. The problem isnt the program it is that when you download it tracks them to you. Another thing I would do is move the files out of the shaired file this is how they see how many programs you have. But then again if every one does that than no one will have acc. to any files. So the man gets the result he is looking for.

Some one must go to the edge for others to be able to find it. But if you go be sure you can make it back.

I go wardriving only when I need to (re: on the road). Most access points are only 802.11b and are very unstable from the curb. It is good enough for the necessary email and web surfing, but until 802.11g becomes more prevalent, I wouldn't even bother.

And yes, you can spoof your MAC addy, but it would be just as easy to purchase a card with cash and only use it for wardriving.

I do it all the time it works great. You might try getting an antena. I can go 2 blocks. I love it when I find one on a 7M dsl or a good cable modem. Can you say file is downloaded? Probley not as fast as I can get it. It's not the cards MAC add. I would wory about but the computers.

Where can I find a good antenna?

I guess you also use netstumbler?

My setup is a Toshiba 1.6gP4 laptop, Linksys 54g card and XP Pro.

Of corse I use stumbeler and a Magelan GPS. Your problem is you card. I hate linksys cards. They make great AP's but the cards don't have that much power. As for the G. The only real advantage is it goes to 54M insted of 11M. But when you are on a 7M pipe that is as fast as you will go. Also as far as I know lynksys does not make a card with an exturnal antena port.

The linksys card has worked fine for me so far, and as far as the lower costing 54g solutions, it seemed the best way to go. Also, since Linksys is now the consumer brand of Cisco, I was pretty certain that I would be able to connect to Cisco products without issue after the next firmware upgrade.

I needed 11g to get a signal across my entire two flat, 11b just didn't have the mustard unless I purchased a signal booster. I will eventually move to an A+G card once 11g is out of the draft stage.

As far as I know, Linksys doesn't have a card with an antenna port, but I'm sure something could be rigged up. I've had no problems with wardriving, but I have not been as lucky as you. I know on the DZ I am getting signals in places that others with the Cisco card are not.
