apology

Recommended Posts

I am truly sorry I have offended so many of you. Please understand that my job is to find footage. You may not approve of my career but this is what I do. I did not mean to make lite of fatalities and injuries. I have seen the error of my ways and will not return back to your forums or seek out any other sky-divers. Please forgive me and leave me alone. If you can't forgive, just get past it please.

... and particularly not in the Incidents Forum (again). Follow the rules and everyone will be happy.

I also apologize for flying off the handle. There are some very bad memories associated with the Incidents forum, which is why I got so angry, and I apologize for that.

Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.

As they pointed out - we like to follow the forum rules here. Granted, not everyone reads the rules before they start posting. Busting the rules on here will be pointed out quickly and often.

Some of the harsh backlash comes from the very poor handling of incidents in our sport - with total disregard for emotional attachment. Too many of us have had to witness "if it bleeds, it leads" and the sensational handling of the death of friends. The reaction a skydiver has to unsolicited attention from the media is not going to be a pleasant one on average - and I don't blame most for being suspect of your intentions.

I got to remember to say that to the next person who says they are leaving the forums for personal reasons or whatever the stupid excuse is. Thanks Seb. ;)

Your remarks are obviously sincere and are therefore appreciated. Perhaps it's attributable to youthful enthusiasm on your part, overriding common sense to an extent. Well, we've all been there. Everyone has to be young and make mistakes. Someone new to the business and eager to prove themselves might get carried away.

However I think this situation reflects the larger disconnect between showbiz and the rest of the world.

I've never been treated so contemptuously as the times I have dealt with people employed in showbiz.

I don't mean celebs. They're just the apex of the pyramid, and the most visible part of the product.

I refer to production crew members, agents, and others in the industry.
Many of them make no effort to mask their contempt and loathing for the people who consume their products. They think (perhaps rightly) that most, if not all, television viewers / movie goers are fat and stupid, and don't deserve any respect. After all, if the (the viewers) had self-respect, well then, they wouldn't be watching, now would they?

Granted, I've mostly encountered showbiz workers on sets, where time is money and the psychological pressure is at times unbelieveable.

Still, I can't help but feel that you're a nice person in a dirty business.

Respectfully,
