Push 0 #1 July 16, 2003 I received an email from what looked like my bank today. Coincidentally, what was written sounded like something I dealt with recently. I opened the attachment. You can guess what happened then. Now I'm getting internet explorer popups every 5 minutes or so, while I'm trying to work. Thankfully, I know how to deal with this. In case someone around here doesn't know what to do, this might help. Go to www.lavasoft.de and download a program called Ad-aware. It's like an antivirus for spamware. Run it and have it erase everything it finds. Then run it again, until nothing is left. If you have Kazaa installed, Ad-aware will break it. This is because Kazaa comes with about three different spamware programs. If this happens, go to http://www.k-lite.tk/ and download Kazaa Lite. This is a free version of Kazaa which is exactly the same as the original Kazaa except it doesn't have any of the spamware crap in it. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. aero04 0 #2 July 16, 2003 Maybe someone could help me with a problem I've been having recently. Starting a few weeks ago, when I try to access a site, instead of loading up the site, some other site starts loading and this site wants to download something called IE Extension. I hit cancel, but I can never go to that site again without this thing popping up and trying to download this program. It seems to happen completely at random. Any help would be much appreciated. Jib 0 #3 July 16, 2003 Somebody recommended Spybot--Search & Destroy a few weeks ago. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. Larry Flynt
katiebear21 0 #4 July 16, 2003 Spybot - Search and Destroy is definitely the way to go! We use it on gov't systems here and I've used it on my own system after some surfing caused spybots to be loaded on my computer. aero04 0 #6 July 17, 2003 Much appreciate the programs. Unfortunately, whatever the hell this thing is seems uneffected by both Spybot and Ad-aware. Any other ideas??
katiebear21 0 #7 July 17, 2003 Check the executables that are running when you perform this action (task manager/processes) and look for the executable that doesn't make sense. Do a search and find out where it's installed and delete it. Unless it got added to the registry (which is a possibility) that should wipe it. Push 0 #8 July 17, 2003 I actually had to go to msdn.microsoft.com and find out how that crap plugs itself into IE to clean this one. However, I'd rather not give instructions about this type of removal over the forums because it's too easy to misunderstand. You need to manipulate your registry, and the stuff you're working with could easily break your IE, which is not easily reinstallable. If someone really needs to remove some crap from their system that neither Spybot nor Ad-aware will take, PM me and I'll help you personally. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy.
