who thinks,

Conservatives are Pro gun - but anti abortion.

Liberals are pro abortion - but anti gun.

Conservatives have the "right to bear Arms" but don't like it when other countries have those rights.

Liberals are not always 100% in favour of this right, but can understand why other countries would like it.

It's all about timing - I guess.

This is much stranger:

Pro-choice and against the death penalty (yes, I am an oxymoron, since that's my category.)

Anti-aborition and for the death penalty. Sure, the unborn child is innocent, but so are some people on death row.

And, just because people are for the right to bear arms does not mean they are for the right to kill people :S
There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Not strange at all.

I am,

Pro choice,

Pro the right to bear arms - but think arms should be defined. I don't want the dude in the condo next to me with nukes - there has to be some control.

Pro human rights, even for suspects of terrorisim.

Pro freedom of religeon,

Pro right to choose sexual orientation,

Pro Skydiving - even Style and Accuracy.

I am

anti violence against civilian populace by soldiers during war or peace.

Anti death penalty,

Anti discrimination on the grounds of colour, sex, age, race, religeon, sexual orientation etc.

anti-abortion (although I won't condemn anyone for their own choice)
death penalty - tough one...I guess I'm for it, but I still have issues that go deeper than a simple for or against
pro right to bear arms - I agree that "arms" should be defined
pro freedom of religion - otherwise, it would be like following a cult mindlessly
anti-violence - I understand the need for war in certain situations, but I still don't support the idea of war

Whoa! There goes my Texas steriotype!:D

Death penalty... I'm anti as a good member of society, but I can see how I would want to kill someone who killed those I love. I just expect the State to be a little above revenge.

I'm used to it, I guess...I mean, Texas puts more people to death every year than anywhere else, right? So, our government officials are murdering sons of guns themselves. I hate the idea that an innocent person could be put to death, but I like the idea of getting rid of the trash in our society as well.

"Pro gun, pro choice"

That's seeming to be less rare than I suspected. Maybe pro gun people feel the right to protect themselves in several ways.

Interesting.

I've found that gun rights and abortion are two issues which are pretty much split down the middle and divided pretty equally between both parties. The difference is in the parties' official stance. The people who worry me are those that go along with every single thing a political party says.

See my sig for reference.

But how do we define "getting rid of"

Surely life without parol would do this? Capital cases that go on appeal for 10 years must cost the taxpayer more than just feeding the dude and making him read bambi again, and again...

I know this forum is largely populated by Americans, but am hoping to keep "parties" out of it. The "right - left" line of the political spectrum may be in the middle, but I think on many issues, most people are really close to the middle. Closer than they may suspect, I think.

Not really, because you still have the appeals process that can go all the way to the Supreme Court. So either way you have the court costs.

This is one area where I think we should learn from China.

This is true. Again, another reason I ride the fence a little. I'm sure that being locked in a maximum security prison for the rest of their life is a fitting punishment, and there's very little possibility that they would escape, but I'd just feel safer if they weren't there at all. Look what happens when prisoners escape--remember the "Texas 7"?

"learn from China?"

What do they do? (I don't know much about China other than that they built a railway through Tanzania in the 70's that had the aparthied government very worried...And that there are lots of them..:$)

Hey Tonto.....Having Fun????:P

Me, I make my choices as I have to and not a moment before. Life has a funny way of throwing curveballs at those who rush up to the plate.
(How is that for being accomodating to our American friends).

I suppose I am only one thing

Er, no, I don't. Never made the local paper, I guess.
They escaped, and did bad things? Again? That's not nice.

What worries me about the death penalty is that I'm a Budhist, and with reincarnation - after a 40 day wait in the garden, they could be back in a few short years, younger and stronger than before, with the same lesson to learn. I prefer the "time trap" of life.
