Thankfully the UN probably won't exist long enough for this to actually go into effect.

It's also nothing new. They've tried nonsense like this before, and as usual, it has zero effect in shitholes like the Congo.

The UN's continuing efforts to gain power over the US will lead to its end. We're not going to give them control of our arms (even if the constitution didn't preclude it), let alone our armies.

There's no need to bomb the UN. We pay for most of it. So, just withdraw funding for it and its programs.

Things like this start to prove why we are allowed to own guns in the first place.

Ditto.

The UN has had plans for disarming this country since the mid sixties. It's all about the new world order.
I like coffee in the morning, but I don't like it ruling my day. Get the US out of the UN!

All the more reason to get the Fuck out of the UN, and to kick the UN out of the USA. What good are they really? Do you think single gun ownership in the US or other countries is the biggest concern the UN should have? This is just stupid.... I hate the UN almost as much as I hate the ACLU!!!!!

Or maybe, just maybe, the UN actually has some good ideas.

Perhaps one of the problems in their effectiveness is that some major countries (including the United States) don't even pay the dues they've promised. So much for our reputation and the honor of a country's word.

Perhaps another reason we are having so many "issues" with the UN is that we are shirking our self-proclaimed duty to be a thoughtful world leader, and instead are taking the role of playground bully. If we acted responsibly in the first place, perhaps we find ourself less conflicted with the UN.

I'm not getting into the gun issue, since we've been over it a thousand times and I have a busy day. But I do think it is a stretch to go from disagreements about gun ownership to discussion of withdrawing funding from the UN (already essentially done) and bombings.

If the whole world thinks you are a jerk, it might be time to consider that the whole world isn't wrong, and you are acting like a jerk.

So your all in favour of illegal arms deals with , ohh lets hazard a guess at who buys illicit weapons in a global marketplace, oh yes....Al Quaeda, IRA, Basque separatists.....war on terror my arse.
Shame on you people.

[Sarcasm]

But it so much easier and more fun to just get frothing mad about something you know nothing about.

Really, NacMac! Reading, thinking and intelligent action just require TOO MUCH WORK!

Exactly my point. Some people consider gun traders at gun shows illicit gun traders. It is legal, but many people in society (especially Western European society) disapprove.

Therefore it can be easily construed that the UN wants to stop legal activity that is protected by our constitution.

Ummm..yeah..I read a little further down, too, where it said:

many member nations, including the UK, Netherlands and India, want to set up a legally binding protocol requiring all U.N. countries to start registration of firearms.

I really don't think they are interested in you guys and your LEGAL toys, and if you do, then you are getting kinda paranoid....no surprise there then.

construed
"(from Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary)
construe verb FORMAL
construe as to understand the meaning, especially of other people's actions and statements, in a particular way:
Any change in plan would be construed as indecision."

No I disagree. Control of illegal arms deals on an international level is a long way from trying to impose on your constitutional rights as US citizens, whichever way you try and bend the truth, or misread intentions.

Don't you have to register your firearms Kev?
How does registering your firearms cause a legal user a problem?
