swoop cords

Recommended Posts

they go on your thumbs OVER your gloves if you wear them!

when you need a little extra wing to slow you down you pull on em! it stretches your suit to help you slow down.

thereason you wear em OVER your gloves is b/c if you odnt you wont be able to slip em off your hands then you wont be able to reach up and grab your toggles!

Best NOT over thumbs - can lead to a dislocation. Wear them over your palms.

I wouldn't go on any Mettalica websites bragging about that. :P

Man, I've been staring at this reply for about 5 minutes and I STILL cant figure out what it means :D

Will the Metallica guys try to claim they own swoop cords?

Cords sounds like chords. It's a pun. Aaaaah, never mind:)

Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.

John is right - swoop cords can do some decent damage to your hands if you are not carefull. Wear them over your gloves, and over your palms. Also, never let the cords get too loose or they can work their way over your elbows....and on the rare occasion enough slack can cause a half-hitch and get caught on your jumpsuit, altimeter, etc.....

I am going to repeat that. Important. Lost a friend for exactly that reason. Over your gloves.

Another consideration for warm weather jumpers. If you are not wearing gloves and you are just wearing an alti, put the swoop cords OVER the alti strap.

Swoop cords are great if you are coming out late and need to hammer the brakes. B|

Never used them and I don't actually know anything myself so maybe others can give more info, but anyway...

I have heard that they can be problematic (or even dangerous) for inexperienced people to use. During RW, a reach with one arm could cause that side to catch more air than the other side, flipping you over, or at least causing you to sideslide the other way. Anybody agree with that?

The answer is maybe. You could catch too much air if you are reaching too far for a grip.

The idea is to fly to your slot, then take the grip. If you over-reach with swoop cords, you will probably pop up. So don't do that and you'll be ok.
