sinker 0 #6 July 21, 2003 every other month I have business in Shreveport LA, very near Barksdale AFB. Of course that place is famous for the 8th AF and it's huge # of B-52s, but it also has a little wing of A-10s also. After work I often go to this little out of the way road just off the end of the runway and watch the huge bombers and the A-10s come in... it's just awesome. -the artist formerly known as sinker
BobB 0 #7 July 21, 2003 Nice pic! I, too, enjoy watching A-10s fly (have some near here at Pope AFB. It's neat to see them crawl through the sky and listen to the whine of the engines when they throttle up. I think the aircraft is beautiful. It is a form-follows-function approach and it has proven itself. Maybe that's why I love the look of it. Nice view of the tip of the mean GAU-8 poking out from under the nose. Yes, I know it is snowing. No, we are not putting the top up.

jtval 0 #14 July 21, 2003 Quotei knew we had more in common... people say it's ugly... they are SO wrong... well I wont lie....it is ugly as far as what most ppl think is FLYABLE. but damn its a sexy kinda ugly! ever hear em fire thier 3 second bursts? its like a dinosuar farting off in the distance! (FYI- when they shoot that 8mm gattlin gun it slows the plane down. if the kept firing it would STOP!!! and fall out of the sky!)My photos My Videos
freeflir29 0 #15 July 21, 2003 Quotei knew we had more in common... people say it's ugly... they are SO wrong... That plane was the reason I used to park my hummer nose in at Army TOCC's. Someone would inevitably get all pissed and yell at me for not parking "tactically." I would just reply...."Sir/Sgt Major...I'm Air Force. I can bring an A-10 in here in a few minutes. I don't have to run from shit."

sinker 0 #17 July 21, 2003 dontcha mean 30 mm? my dad used to scoop up the spent rounds from the firing range when we lived at Edwards AFB. Those suckers were huge. Zenister 0 #24 July 22, 2003 QuoteIs it true the A-10 has gone over to the US ARMY now?\ nope. they are being decomissioned. The Army has no fixwinged attack assets any longer and very few collection birds... the F-22 will replace the A-10 which wasnt 'bang-wiz' enough for the modern Airforce.. it carries more total strike power, but doesnt have the turnaround or loiter time the A-10 does, and how long it takes to bring that cannon back around is REALLY important in a close air support role..____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
