I think the were still CUTTING the risers at that point.

edit to add...

the three ring assy has only been around for about 21-22 years

that's something I did not know. so when they opened their belly mount reserve... what happened to the main?

they use to really CUT the risers off

THAT'S CRAZY!! Luckily I don't think they had many/any spinning mals B| But I also heard they use to open VERY low... guess during gear checks they had to make sure their knives were sharp so it'd be a quick job.

Now that the patent's out of date... anyone can mfg a 3-ring, right?

i dunno how the MFG laws work. I would guess they would still need some kinda of approval. but since the patent is outdated I have no idea.
He may have reapplied for the patent ( i dont even know if he could)

back in the early days there were far fewer skydivers and unfortunately alot of statistics had to be gathered to make our sport what it is today.
Im not sure about opening altitude , though

hmh. I just remember when the SweetnLow patent ran out, every one expected all kinds of copycat sweetners... don't know how that turned out. the 7 year law is to give the person that did the research time to get a return on their hard work & also hopefully build a nice chunk of market share. that's about all I know.

i'm very grateful to those old time divers... crazy bunch!! On the wall of our dz there's stories of the first people there. One tells of the low pull club... the winner pulled arund 250'!! just beating the record of 275'. But most weren't that looped & pulled around 800 - 1000! But w/o risers, the openings were super fast!

yup, slider, not riser... have you read my sig line?

I know what you mean... when 2.6 rolls round, I know my hand better be on my hackey! they really did see the whites of the observers eyes before pulling!
