marcandalysse 0 #1 July 24, 2003 For those of you far away from the windtunnel, here's a cool way to train your turning motions...if you are near a swimming pool! Alysse got some of those kiddie arm band floats, there are the air filled kind she put on wrists and ankles, and a type that wraps around with a velcro belt that fit around her knees. She is in the pool now practicing mantis position moves. You don't turn, of course, but the pressure is similar to that of pushing air in the tunnel! Great practice and builds up the right muscle sets! Cool idea, Alysse! Marc

And of course all the whuffos at the pool probably think shes some weirdo wearing kiddie arm bands and learning to swim! but seriously, how much can it really help you? When you do different positions, the water won't make you move at all... couldn't you just lie on your floor and practice the positions? Seems like a good deal! How many minutes of these do you think one should do to be proficient in the tunnel? yes, that was sarcasm in case its too early for you to recognise it... lolRemster

When you do different positions, the water won't make you move at all... couldn't you just lie on your floor and practice the positions? The idea is to train the arm and leg movements and work on muscle memory....the buoyancy of the floats provides the 'pressure' factor with both hands and legs so it feels like pushing air, you can't get that on the floor. The floats also keep you level and stable in the water. Other earlier threads refer to doing this on an ottoman or similar, but comments mentioned that didn't train muscle memory for the same positions as being in tunnel or in the air...this is closer to that. BTW, no whuffos in our pool in the back yard!
