Im sure his commander would have had something to say to the boss The hours sure do suck! Just as you get used to days you're on swings, then a few days later you're on mids. We had to have a calendar with us just to make dinner plans with friends. Oh and forget about holidays! When everyone else gets time off to go home with their families...someone has to stay behind and stand at the gate! Made me seriously rethink what I was doing knowing that I had already enlisted and was coming home to be under the same commander! I ended up getting orders elsewhere and a million other things got in the way so at least I never had to work under those guys. BettyAnn Getting married? Check out my website! robskydiv 0 #54 June 13, 2003 Hi Casie. The Air Force is very specialized It can give you some awesome career skills. Make sure that the recruiter knows about your degree.
Amazon 7 #55 June 14, 2003 QuoteThanx, that's some reassurance that was well needed! Yeah, I think I can do pushups, situps & run. Has this dampered your jumping at all? I know basic training lasts 6 straight weeks but do you get to jump monthly? Basic was way easy.. hell they dont even shave our heads like the guys get to experience. And its not so bad not having to decide on what to wear every day. But it is an interesting dress code. ITs a Uniform and subject to lots of rules in its proper wearing. ( Dont Worry they will teach you ALLLLL About it) The AirForce has very few career fields where parachuting is in the job description at all. Most of those career feilds were or still are closed to women. Pararescue, Combat Control, ROMADS, and some other Spec Ops groups are highly selective and all boy clubs last time I heard. I dont know which jobs are currently open to women but usually the SERE and Life Support end of things where you are dealing with Aircrew training are about the only options open and even then it depends on the base you are assigned to. In the Air Force if you are an Officer and NON-RATED your promotion possibilities are VERY limited. I think at 28 you may be past the age they would allow you to go to pilot or nav training and most of those are not considered to be parachuting career fields. Hell trying to get an Air Foce Pilot out of his airplane is the reason so many of them get scraped up by crash recovery crews. Trying just one more thing to save an aircraft that has the glide ratio of a lead brick when the power in the tail end goes out is lethal. I am not trying to be a damp dish cloth here but you need to REALLLLLY research this with people who are currently in the Air Force and not some one who has been out for 20 years like me. I loved some of it... I hated some of it. But I did get to go to college on thier money. Uh by the way I would think with the court reporting thing you might be able to get into something to do with the Staff Judge Advocates Office.. the legal end of things. Hell they might even pay for you to go to law school...dont know. My Uncle was a Staff Judge Advocate and got to travel all over the world. brits17 0 #56 June 14, 2003 casie, i agree with GQ (jeremy, wassup dude) and do the officer thing if you can. i went through army basic and looking at all the pinheads in OCS (officer candidate school) i laughed my ass off. the army's ocs was cakewalk so i can only imagine the air force's. considering the AF females only have to get through 3 miles walking as an enlistee for their pt test, i think you'll be just fine i enjoyed my army time, and would like to return after my bachelor's degree but go the officer route instead. good luck in your venture. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com
Casie 0 #57 June 17, 2003 Well, I'm just waiting to hear from the recruiter. I called him yesterday & told him the degree I have & where it's from...yadda yadda yadda. I haven't heard back, called again today & left a voicemail. My school is an accredited college & the recruiter mentioned he has to look thru his list & see if my school is on there. Huh? I thought it just needed to be an accredited school/college/university...that's what it says on the website. Anyways, waiting sucks!~Porn Kitty WARNING: Goldschlager causes extreme emotional outbursts!

jumprunner 0 #59 June 17, 2003 QuoteI'm thinking of joining the airforce My career is not heading in the direction I had hoped I do have a 4 year degree & just turned 28 this month. Does anyone want to give me pro's con's on any of this, it would really help out tremendously. No, I have not talked with a recruiter yet but have their number when I'm ready. I want to have as much info as possible & have already done quite a bit of research online. Just one word...OCS.

Casie 0 #63 July 25, 2003 Let's see where to begin. I finally found out my school is recognized by the AirForce as an accredited school, however is a non degree granting accreditation. My degree was basically self paced & on average took 4 years or longer to complete. The recruiter told me to get a copy of my transcript & they could possibly give me credit for all my hours as long as I had over a 3.0 GPA. It's taken this long to get a copy of my transcript from my school. Apparently they couldn't locate everything & the director had to put another one together. Geez! I've made my call to the recruiter to set up an appointment to meet with him. Wish me luck!~Porn Kitty WARNING: Goldschlager causes extreme emotional outbursts! tbrown 26 #64 July 25, 2003 If you're 28, degreed, and looking for career development, definitely hold out for Officer Candidate School. Look at it this way, would you really want to have to live and work for 4 years with a bunch of high school kids ? I'm NOT putting them down either, they're serving their country, but they are the age they are and they've got a lot of growing up to do yet. You'd go nuts if you had to live and work at their level. You've already matured through most of your twenties, and no matter what anybody thinks of college, you've earned your degree by a lot of hard work - earning 130 credits is no cakewalk. So be an officer - you'll be in management and whether or not you want to stay or leave after 4-6 years, you'll be much further ahead on any path you choose. And don't forget that the military is more than willing to continue educating their officer corps, you get a Masters or even more, though you'd probably have to extend your service for paybacks. Only you can sign the papers. I'd say be an officer or forget it. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !
