quade 4 #4 July 24, 2003 Paul's first responce to any two devices that aren't communicating when previously they had been. Turn both your computer and the device off. Unplug both from each other and the wall sockets. Go get a coke and watch TV for a few minutes. When you're done drinking the coke, go back to the computer and device and plug everything back in. Start everything up and see what happens.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
jessd 0 #5 July 24, 2003 No the burner came with the computer. I have Microsoft XP Home Edition and am using Nero burning software. I don't get any error messages. jjiimmyyt 0 #6 July 24, 2003 I haven't actually had much experience of XP home (I work mostly with corporate stuff) if you go to control panel and look in Admin tools, Event viewer, system, there may be a message time stamped around the last time you tried to burn a CD to no avail. If there is, google the result. It may help. "This isn't an iron lung, people. You can actually disconnect and not die." -Dave

AndyMan 7 #11 July 24, 2003 Go to your Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel, System. Click the Hardware tab, then hit "Device Manager". Do you see anything with a red "X"? Also, can you read normal CD's from that drive? _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
Cornholio 0 #12 July 24, 2003 QuoteMy CD burner stopped working all of a sudden. I have not recently installed any new software and I do not have a virus. Not sure how to fix it. Does anyone have any suggestions? How do you know it stopped working ? Was there an error message ? Was there smoke, fire, or ooze coming out of your computer ? Was there any noise coming from the burner ? If using Nero, it had to give an error. What was it ? What was the last piece(s) of software what you installed ? Have you been drinking ? Have you tried rebooting ? Some serious questions, some fun ones, but they could all help us troubleshoot. Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast! Beavis: Yeah! Yeah! lummy 4 #14 July 24, 2003 iWith newer CD drives, if it's not working, it won't show up as being there. NO CD icon in my computer, np device listed in device manager... In other words, the red X or yellow exclamation doesn't apply to CD's, hard drives, floppies... BUT, like Andy said, does it read regular CD's? does it make the spinning up sound when you put a CD in? Have you used it for a drink holder recently?I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. jtval 0 #16 July 25, 2003 yea once the magic smoke comes out, all you can do is send it back and the factory will re install more smoke! If you saved the smoke in a bag or something they may give you a discount! sometimes the electrons get blocked up and you have to shake the unit. worst case scenario you may have downloaded a homotron. do you know what they are? their little gay electrons that go around blowing circuitsMy photos My Videos
