Cornholio 0 #2 July 25, 2003 Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me. I work for Cisco but haven't had time to study for my certs. I'm trying to get them done before my contract expires at the end of the year. Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast! Beavis: Yeah! Yeah! mfrese 0 #3 July 25, 2003 I'm studying for my CCNA, still a ways from taking the test. Of course I work at Cisco, which make it way easier to study, considering I have a whole lab full of stuff to choose from IcemanDoctor I ain't gonna die, Just write me an alibi! ---- Lemmy/Slash

Cornholio 0 #6 July 25, 2003 QuoteMatt Dude.. I thought you were certified..... I was almost ready to take the test when I was out of work, but now I work with the routers all day, so It's kind of redundant. I do want to take the test before the end of the year though. mfrese 0 #10 July 25, 2003 Why, you gonna puke? Actually, I'm a lab manager for the VSEC BU, so we have pretty much everything from 7500s to 7200s to GSRs to every piece of VPN and PIX and IDS hardware you could want, so setting up a test bed with spare gear is pretty easy. My Sys Admin is working on his CCIE, so he's like a kid in a candy store around here... Clownburner 0 #11 July 25, 2003 CCIE #2006 (June 1996), CCDA, Certified Instructor #23051. I'm an old-school router jock from Waaaaay back. Back when I got certified, they still had DLSW+ over X.25 on the test. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth
Rdutch 0 #12 July 25, 2003 QuoteI’m considering getting my Cisco Certification. Just wanted to know how many folks in the skydiving community were Cisco Certified. CCIE? CCDA? CCNA? etc, etc, etc CCNA here, that and a dollar will buy you a bowl of soup. But if you want a job in the Networking field I recommend it, you will learn a lot. The Mcse/Mcsa has so many holes and teaches you so little you really should get your CCNA. Take Network+ first for sure if you are planning on attempting your Mcse or you will be wondering whats going on a lot. I have 2 years of school and I learned more in my first month of Internship than I learned the whole time in school. Good luck. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of! Kris 0 #14 July 26, 2003 QuoteWhat are the benefits of being Cisco certified? It's a step on the path to becoming a Router God (CCIE). Cisco Certification is one of the few that actually means something, especially at the CCIE level. The tests are very in-depth and are from a problem-solving perspective. Cisco certification means you will have a much easier time becoming a network admin. It's not bad work if you can get it. I currently have CCNA and CCNP and have thought about going for CCIE but it's a real bitch. The CCIE, besides involving several tests, also has a practical component. You're basically thrown in a room with a network setup and you have to debug the issues on that network. In relative terms, the CCNA would be an associate's degree, the CCIE is the doctorate. There was a time when a freshly minted CCIE could walk onto any job for 6-figures. The market is tighter but recruiters and HR (especially at my job) will give your resume a closer look if you have any Cisco certs.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Not that I'm going to go for the CCIE but now I know that at least going for CCNA is beneficial unlike I've been told by some and I think that was mainly because they weren't certified in anything themselves. Clownburner 0 #16 July 26, 2003 It's definately a good place to start, as the info you learn with CCNA will come in useful almost anywhere in the tech/networking industry. A good background in networking is a nice foundation to start from... Anyway, I used to teach the Cisco class that is recommended to get your CCNA, the ICRC, so if you have any questions or anything feel free to shoot me a PM or whatever... Gee, maybe I should organize a networking class at WFFC so we can have a whole cadre of CCNA Skydivers! 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth
Guest #17 July 26, 2003 heh-heh, your timing is amazing. About to take the CCNA to fortify my resume with "Certs with Retsyn" - heh I think a broad skillset is called for, which is why I have MCSE (NT), CNE (4.11), A+, etc. Yes, the CCIE puts one in the "exalted", "most high", "techno-god" status (REALLY!), but it isn't worth it in my book."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
