Vibes for FliegendeWolf and Ali

Recommended Posts

Hey y'all!

Steve and Ali need some serious vibes right now. They just got to Boston and are in moving-scam hell. To say the least, they're wigging out a bit and could use all the encouragement we can give them.

My personal request:
Not that anyone would, but after the thread on moving scams, please no I-told-you-so's. This is not a cool situation right now.

Thanks everyone. It's so nice we have a place to go to get the hugs and sympathy we all need sometimes.

:)

Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.

Hi everyone, thanks a lot for the vibes. I've decided that movers=asshats.

Quote

oooo do tell what's up ?

The way it's working out, we were given a quote for $1190 from one company. This company outsourced the actual move to another company. When the second company arrived (two hours late ... and we needed to get on the road), they came armed with details that were not what we agreed to with the first company, but they basically said, "Do you or do you not want your things moved?"

What could we do? We signed their form and got on the road. Yesterday, Ali received a phone call from the second company saying that they have our things in a warehouse in Chicago and it will not be released until we agree to pay them a total of $3900. So we threw a fit with the first company, who acted all apologetic and promised to have things squared away in a half hour. This was yesterday morning, and as many times as we have called them and spoken and haggled with them, have not called us to tell us any progress is being made. I guess what happened is the movers decided that the boxes we had packed were not packed "properly" and emptied them and repacked them in their own boxes (which start at $10 per box), and after this the things now took up twice as much space as was quoted. Anyway, it's still in Chicago and we don't know when it will be delivered and how much of the extra money we'll actually have to pay.

Oh yeah, and nobody has bothered to pick up our car, yet. It's still sitting in the parking lot of my old apartment complex.

We're on it. I checked out movingscam.com the last time it came up and have found that page. We have already begun compiling our complaint about the events of the past few days.

Here's where we're at: We have agreed to put have of the new charges on credit card now, and to pay the rest when they arrive. Then, we'll file a dispute with the credit card company over the charges based on our story and hope to at least recoup some that way. I'm pretty sure that the Mastercard corporation is better equipped to deal with these situations than I am, at any rate.

JT, thanks for the offer, but I wouldn't feel right about taking your money for this... [:/]

In the contract, does it say move XYZ from place A to place B?

If it does, and they did not, then it can be construed as (grand?) theft. I think a call to the local PD is in order (the one where the crime took place - Chicago?), file a complaint, and go from there.

Just my .02 - I know that technique worked for some clients of mine - move from street A to B in the same community, the stuff ended up in another city in the storage....one call from the police detective to the warehouse manager "resolved" it rather well and quite quickly. And a notice went out to all realtors in the area to not use the moving service again...(and no, it was not a company that I would have chosen).

In the alternative, if you give us their name, we could make calls...and send e-mails...and the like. Little bit of payback, you know? (I can just imagine 5000 emails and phone calls at a very busy time of month at a very busy time of year...)
