Should I be Pissed Off?

Recommended Posts

Ok. So I bought a new rig about 2 months ago and it needed a new Cypres. I bought one of those too but it needed a 4 year service so was sent to Germany over 7 weeks ago (from Australia). I was told by my rigger that it should take about 5 weeks. For the last few weeks I have been ringing and chasing to see if it is back as I am very keen to get up in the sky. Anyway last week I didn't make my standard call as I was away this weekend. When I rang my rigger yesterday it turns out that he has gone on holiday for three weeks and there is no way of contacting him at all. This will mean that my rig will have been away for over 10 weeks when I eventually get it back.

Am I right to be really pissed off that he didn't at least call me to tell me that it was not back or that he was going away?

The company he works out of suggested I come and have a look to see if I can find it but that means a trip out of town and picking up a rig I am not sure is finished with.

Argh. What to do?

cypres units that need to go back to germany for service get THOROUGHLY tested and any parts that are not up to specs get replaced. it usually takes a while (one of my units had to go back there once and was held up an extra 5 weeks) so dont sweat it. my opinion is u should have had the rigger close up the reserve, jump the rig until the cypres is back, and when it arrives, have him just open the rig and install it (it dosent need a new packjob, just note the date the cypres was installed and close it back up)

hindsight tho, since hes on vacation. maybe another rigger there will take it over for you and finish it under the circumstances, speak to the management at the dz and explain the situ to them. id be pissed. also sometimes when a cypres is going to take that long theyll give u a loaner if yer a" i will never jump a rig without a cypres nazi "

FYI - in Germany, the average employee gets 6 weeks vacation time per year, this in addition to hollidays, which there is one every month ( in the form of at least one long weekend). I had this experience when ordering a part for an analytical intrument one time, it takes longer to get things done, but the quality of workmanship is usually outstanding.

But isnt it nice, 6 weeks per year? Compared to our measly ass bullshit 2 frickin' weeks per year?

Unfortunately I cannot jump without a Cypres until I have my C license in Australia so no jumping for me.

Since there are only 2 service centers in the world for the Cypres I can understand why they chose to send it to Germany ;)

As for the rigger being gone... if they can't find the parts in a completly repacked rig, you might be hosed.

Welcome to the equlivent of my winter. Winter aka no jumping lasts for 5 months a year [:/]
Yesterday is history
