Deluge in Rantoul

Recommended Posts

So it's been raining for about an hour here at this point. Winds are about 30kts; they just made an announcement to seek shelter in a building. A bunch of people are driving their cars over to one of the big hangars to wait out the storm. No tents down yet that I can tell, but the storm hasn't really hit yet; lightning isn't overhead yet.

It started out with ominous looking clouds on the horizon. We went on a weather hold, and the local FSS kept putting up these scary-looking weather maps showing the bands of rain approaching. People milled around for a while, then suddenly the wind changed, and people instinctively started running. The lightning and rain hit about 10 minutes later.

Sure is nice to have a tiny (read: low profile for both wind and lightning) RV here. Got beer, soda, the radio, and of course a computer or two.

We may manage anyway. I brought a few cases of Skydiver Blonde from LP (lot of firsts there this year, including first wingsuit dock and first wingsuit 7-way.) A little rain won't stop us! It certainly won't stop Lisa, who is already drunk.

something tells me the nig-noggery will soon be in full effect..

i'm envisioning the mud bath from woodstock...

hope it clears soon...

I took off from Rantoul this afternoon to head back to Chicago for a wedding. The storm that was headed their way was terrible, but about 30 miles north of the dz, there were clear blue skies. There is a good chance that they may be jumping by now!

I'll be back at the boogie tonight, and there is no way in hell I am going to have anymore of SkyMonkeyONE's moonshine....I had two drinks off that stuff and was drunk all night long.....not sure I remember much after I left Chuck's trailer.

OK, off to the wedding!

See what happens when you have a WFFC without me......:D

It was some serious Wrath of God stuff. Saw some serious twisting in some wall clouds. But then we all came out and they were telling us to go back in the hangar because another storm was coming. None hit and we were told not to go into town because the streets were flooded. They weren't. That was the comical part. But the first storm to hit was really, really nasty. The convention faired fairly well for it though.
