NeedToJump 0 #1 August 4, 2003 http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/08/04/girl.in.trunk.ap/index.html HUNTINGDON, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A woman who locked her 3-year-old daughter in the trunk of a car while she visited her husband in prison has been charged with endangerment. Tammy Denise Swittenburg-Edwards, 31, was arrested Saturday at a state prison about 95 miles east of Pittsburgh after prison guards heard crying and yelling from the vehicle and found the girl in the trunk, state police said. Swittenburg-Edwards apparently locked her in after prison officials refused the child's entry because she wasn't on a visitor's list, state police said. The girl was in the trunk for about 40 minutes while Swittenburg-Edwards visited her husband, state police said. The child wasn't injured. Swittenburg-Edwards was charged with attempted aggravated assault and endangerment, and is being held in the Huntingdon County Prison. The girl was turned over to child welfare officials. Swittenburg-Edwards did not have a listed phone number and it was unclear if she had an attorney.Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
BlueEyedMonster 0 #2 August 4, 2003 Well at least some good will come out of it. Hopefully she will end up in jail and the kid can go to a decent foster home.
bch7773 0 #3 August 4, 2003 sick stuff... as part as the woman's punishment, they should lock her in a car trunk for a few hours, while her daughter watches a movie or something. MB 3528, RB 1182

NeedToJump 0 #6 August 4, 2003 Yeah, I can't believe that. She's visiting her husband at a state prison, locks her kid in the trunk and ends up in a county prison. At least the girl was alright, hopefully she'll turn out better than her parents...Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

Agreed, but tell the kid to stay in the car, don't lock her in the trunk. Or better yet, as Lummy said, don't bring her.Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

True, but it doesn't say how old the kid is.. just leaving the kid in the car (not the trunk, but the car) by herself most likely would have also been illegal

NeedToJump 0 #14 August 5, 2003 QuoteA woman who locked her 3-year-old daughter She was three and I hadn't thought of legalities of leaving her in the back seat. I guess either plan ahead and get her on "the list" or leave when you find out she can't go in. I think it's pretty silly that the guards would not let a 3-year-old in, but rules are rules. I don't think TSA would let a 3-year-old through security without a boarding pass either.Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

NeedToJump 0 #17 August 5, 2003 Come on Ivan, don't all prisons have the 6 and under play pen like at McDonalds? As I said though, the woman just should have planned ahead and not made such a stupid decision when she realized the situation she was in. Let's hope that child welfare can do better for her.Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

I live 2hrs away from Huntindon(I can kneecap her if you like/fair game) I work outside and folks were hot and getting dizzy. No one is accustom to this here. I love the heat now, and I wouldn't make it with the windows rolled up._______________________________ If I could be a Super Hero, I chose to be: "GRANT-A-CLAUS". and work 365 days a Year. http://www.hangout.no/speednews/

NeedToJump 0 #25 August 5, 2003 Well hopefully the child is too young to remember this incident.
