I'm SURE AggieDave understands that even though all of that info is publicly available to anyone that knows how to get it . . . it's just bad form (REALLY bad form) to post it out where EVERYBODY can see it.

Again, sorry Dave. I have a feeling we sort of punched the edit and delete buttons at just about the exact same instant. I know you'd never do anything intentionally to hurt HH, but everyone slips up every once in awhile -- me included -- well, maybe more than once in awhile.

It wasn't so much the name that threw me over the edge, but rather seeing it and a BUNCH of information, bogus or not, following it.

Again, I freeked and just trashed it as quickly as I could to limit the potential damage.

We must have hit the buttons at the same time. Yes it is publicly available information, any 10 year old that can work a computer can get it, but I did edit out all the *real* information (except for the DNS servers, which doesn't matter, and the fact that the domain was registered to an address in CA, which isn't necissarily where he actually lives. On a side note, I needed to talk to HH IRL about 4 months ago, I used the phone number listed in the Whois lookup and it was some random guy's cell phone in SF. Not even a skydiver. So even if I had left the phone number up, it's not a real HH number.)

I've known HH on this site since about May 25, 2000 and I've met him in person, partied with him, even have the pics to prove it (not a normal thing for someone outside of his normal area), and you're right, I wouldn't do anything to intentionally hurt HH.

Well, it's interesting. He owns a very public and open web site, but I think like most reasonable people he'd like to have a bit of privacy -- the right to be left alone. There's even a bit of an unwritten rule (sort of a joke, sort of) about not putting his photo up and IDing it on the web site.

I really respect that and I'll protect that -- especially if I know he's off having a good time and not watching things on his own.
(Even if it means going a bit overboard sometimes.)

The entire functionality of the internet depends on whois data being public, and it is posted online exactly for the reason of shmucks like us being able to access it.

I gotta agree with Quade On the initial impulse.

Even tho you can get info about people on whois. (you can look me up also) Its improper to post it on the airwaves.

To me its kinda like getting really drunk dancing on the table while farting, and burping at a black tie dinner. My point is its socially unacceptable, IMO.

The main reason I say this is super long ago a certain person, (prior to the no personal attack rule) made horrible, horrible remarks about me. Extremely personal untrue remarks. He should have been banned immediately. Yet it went by. I know I hold some green/red persons somewhat accountable for this painful event as I requested that something be done. The postings were by a person who knew someone, who knew someone, who knew someone I went to high school with who was told by another person an untrue rumor. Yet this event was regarded as entertainment on this forum.

Of course the events are NOT the same at all but I will go along with the no personal info on the boards. The highly sensitive nature of my event should have never been allowed to transpire. I am thinking that this forum has now drawn a line, yet too damn late for me.
