Computer help needed

Recommended Posts

Ok I have a problem - last night I worked late and got a little bored needed a break. So I jumped to a link from a spam mail. Now my IE has a stupid toolbar "Adult links" so I can turn it off but not get rid of it. Does anyone know how to. I am not talking about the normal "links" toolbar - which was also populated with crap. B|

I had problems getting rid of a toolbar once. I had to go into their site and dig way down deep to find the link to get rid of it, but it was there. Also, did you try add/remove programs?

Now that's why I use Linux at home B|

Your new menubar is most certain to have other "uses" that you are unaware of. You can get a really good spyware detector/remover called Adware. It can be found on many download sites. HERE is a list of them.

This is a free application that the authors (Lavasoft) hope you will like enough to purchase the add on modules. It works really well I might add.

This is just one of the things I keep handy for those rat bastard muther fockers piece of #%^& ahahhhhhhhh.

Have a nice day.

I work for a telecom provider and we are always trying to block the child pornographers, spammers, et al, but I still can't keep my own PC free of pop ups, etc.

Some of us are trying the google toolbar. You need IE 6 to block pop ups.

Sorry guys, you cannot trust those free things either. I had an old roomie install a free virus scanner on my server once. He claimed he didn't, but the keylogger busted him.

Anyway, it was not a virus scanner; it was an empty folder in program files and a variation of the NIMBDA virus. I discovered it when my firewall started stopping a huge flood of intrusion attempts. Just formatting did not clear it either.... it would re-infect one drive as I formatted another. It took a norton anti-virus solution to get rid of it.

Just be careful with this stuff. DON'T be the sucker that gets tricked into installing it. And there is no such things as free. Make sure your home computers have a quality firewall and anti-virus system. Pay for them don't use some downloaded free crap.

Another one that's worked well for me is called "Spybot Search and Destroy". You can download it for free at:

SpyBot is a very good freeware program that is regularly updated to keep pace with the continuing 'spew'. It also has a good online community (including the developer) you can get help and advice from..

get a good firewall and increase the settinging until they annoy you with 'do you want to allow this" questions.. its far easier than continually removing the tracking and ad software you get..

of course your surfing habits have ALOT to do with the kinds of crap your exposed too..
