Opinions of Michael Moore

Recommended Posts

I only just watched Michael Moore's: Bowling for Columbine yesterday. I thought it was a great documentary and alot more then I expected it to be. It inspired me to start reading his book and I'm shocked even just by the start!!! Concerning Bush being 'elected' as president.
Just out of interest what are some inside (America that is) points of view on this? I find it utterly incredible!

his body of work is impressive, but he can be a bit heavyhanded and blundering at times. if i had to say yea or nay, it would be yea. i enjoyed interacting with the audience when i saw BFC as much as the film. lots of people = sheep.
namaste, motherfucker.

Just remember that he's a propagandist, not a documentary maker. Riefenstahl doesn't have a thing on Moore.

nicely put Mark, whilst I think MM bats for the good guys, he has a VERY one sided way of presenting info.
And also tends to use his "statistics" in a less than scientific way.
But he is a necassary evil

AGREED. His convolutions and distortions probably even embarrass the lefties.

Of course, we (the righties) have a couple folks we're not proud of, either.

Overall rating = Asshole disguising opinions as fact.

And like a lot of liberals, he's a flaming hypocrite as well, because in his pathological asshattedness, he doesn't realize it.

My thoughts exactly!!! I was thinking about it for a second and it reminded me of that movie "From the Hip", when they put a president of a bank is on the stand. His lawyer asks him to describe the man he punched. He calmly says, "he's an a$$h%le". Then his lawyer tells the judge (played by my favorite marcian), " I respectfully request that the response stay (not be stricken) the word has a very distinct meaning".
Yeah I don't do who MM can really represent since he has bee booed off the stage in places where most of the people are even Democrats. There are celebreties who political stance I don't approve of (Michael Douglas, Kirt Douglas, Charlie Sheen, Sharon Stone, etc but as long as they shut up most of the time I am ok with them. Then there are the loud annoying liberals, (Barbara Streisand or B.S., Maritin Sheen, Jane Fonda or Hanoi Jane. Sean Penn, etc. and lets not forget MM). Yes these individuals go so far that they earn my dislike to such a level that I personally boycott anything that they are involved in.

Michael Moore has a point to make. The problem is that the facts do not support his point. Therefore, he has to distort facts, and even create "facts" to make his point. Thus, his points are supported mainly by lies and spin.

The question then becomes whether a point is valid if it cannot be supported by the truth.

If bullshit supports a point, the point is bullshit. Hence, Michael Moore is...

The problem with people like Moore is that they are so blinded by their own political beliefs and agendas that they lose all credibility with me.

He has no objectivity. And without objectivity a documentary is meaningless.

That said, I did like "Roger & Me".

I thought Roger and me was pretty good; Bowling for Columbine was a heavy handed, sensationalistic piece. He had an opportunity to talk about the issue with the president of the NRA and ended up using it as an opportunity to insult him and get what he thought was marketable video. Disappointing.

A new logical paradigm was introduced in the 60s that essentially proved that if any concept creates two diametrically opposing schools of thought, then both are incorrect. Obviously the idea didn't go anywhere.

This is what you have with gun control/anti-gun control, liberalism/conservatism, ad nauseum.

The truth is that each side defines itself by its contrast to the other side. Neither truly exists, per se.

The Dao, on the other hand teaches that yin and yang exist as opposite entities and are components of all that exist. It is not necessary or desirable to become polarized.

Yin is soft, warm, inward, flexible ...

Yang is hard, cold, stiff ...

I studied religion in my younger years - including Christianity, and this is the most workable system I have found. It sure helps me understand the stuff on CNN.

Also, one of the tenets of Daoism is to achieve multiple orgasms with multiple partners (although traditionally only men were supposed to benefit from the practice - not concerned with the females climax).

Why go to any other church?

As a martial arts instructor I taught the practice without regard to gender, but I've always been a rebel. You are not going to find these teachings at the local Tae Kwon Do dojang.

"Taoist church" sounds like an oxymoron if you ask me.

If you're into Taoism, there's a really good book called the "Tao of Zen" which traces the historical relationship of Zen & Taoism. The author's (who is a Taoist) premise is that Zen is essentially Taoism + Buddhism.... so philosophical Tao and philosophical Zen are indistinguishable.

what is an 'asshat'? i missed that day in class...

answers own question

all is cool but there is an Origin for the word FUCK. It comes from England in a time when you had to have permission from the king to have sex. If you got permission to do so outside the room where you do it you had to hang a sign that had FUCK written on it. It stood for Fornication, Under, Consent of the King.

I heard it different...

FUCK was a crime that you could be charged and fined for.

It meant:

According to my education, the Chinese translate 'D' as 'T.' So whenever you see 'Taosim,' etc. it is actually 'Daoism.'

I've been trying to educate Japanese Judo players for years about the connection between Zen, buddhism, Judo, Kung Fu, and even the western wrestling arts (freestyle, Greco Roman, catch as catch can, etc.).

The Japanese romanize the Dao character with a 'D.'

This is the same character as in the word Judo. Do is 'the way' in Japanese, translated from the Chinese Dao.

As for Zen, I do not claim to be a Zen buddhist, because anyone who says he is a Zen buddhist is not reall a Zen buddhist.

The Japanese and Chinese hate each other more that conservatives and liberals and it extends to the martial arts world.

Martial arts keep me from becoming monomanical.

He is a bald-faced liar and a hypocrite. He is adored by stupid people with illogical opinions who will believe any idiotic crap they are fed with which they agree.

But hey, there are probably people who post here regularly who will defend him.

The T & D are interchangeable. You are correct that it pronounced "Daoism". Most literature still uses the T, though I have seen some use the D. Personally I think either way is correct, I just have historically used the T.

But then again, does it really matter how it's spelled? It could be spelled C-A-T and it would still remain Tao. ;)

He would be a Zen Buddhist. Now whether he would understand Zen is another story.

Heh. Ain't that the truth. That's why I never ask a person if they're Chinese or Japanese (or anything else). I let them tell me.
