mouth 0 #1 August 12, 2003 In a few hours I'll be at my first session of physical therapy for my broken radial neck and bone chips from my encounter with Gypsy Rose out in Perris. Everyone has told me how bad it is going to hurt and how tough they are going to be about it, but how about some specifics of what is going to happen? Right now I am unable to rotate my arm palm up at all, unable to touch my face, and unable to straighten it fully (ie: flare). How bad is it going to be and what do you think about taking a Vicoden BEFORE I go? Oh, and wish me luck too. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit. lawrocket 3 #6 August 12, 2003 The ideal physical therapist will be the cruelest, and ultimately the kindest, person you ever knew. Kinda like a drill instructor in the service. You will hate your physical therapist for the next few weeks or months. You will hopefully love your physical therapist for the rest of your life. That's what to expect. My wife is hotter than your wife.
Clownburner 0 #7 August 12, 2003 Good luck. Definately DO NOT medicate beforehand unless the PT specifically tells you to do so; they usually need to work those muscles without drugs, especially at first.7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth
oldnewbie 0 #8 August 12, 2003 I will agree with this!!!I was injured in a car accident, and couldn't work for 4 years becuase of the pain etc.. I had about 1500 doctor/pt appointments, with almost no relief. Then I was sent to a PT (an ex hockey player in college) and he hurt the heck out of me!!! He made me do lots of excercise (taking an active role, versus just laying there) and within a month (actually half the pain was gone during the first visit) I actually felt very very good. So good luck with your PT, and get better!! Physical therapy is nothing compared to that. After your session you will be able to rotate your hand more, and you'll be closer to touching your face. Focus on the progress. When you get assessed they'll measure your range. As you progress in therapy you'll keep exceeding those benchmarks. Don't medicate ahead of time. What you'll need after is a anti inflammatory, and naproxen is better than ibuprofren. Heck, you've been there, when they ask me what I've broken, my answer is "yes". The physical therapy hurts, but that is just a side-effect of the progress you're making. You MUST get better so we can hang from the step in Eloy. You gotta be able to lay down, and reach under the tailgate to get that bar. Then you gotta pull yourself out and just hang there a little bit while I take pictures. You gotta be there for those pictures, so work hard, make progress, and get better.
 Raefordite 0 #13 August 12, 2003 well??? Have you gone yet? I believe the measurement you are referring to is supination. The ability to turn your palm upward, so the palm faces the ceiling. Pronation is the opposite, the ability to turn your palm to face the floor. Homework? Hell yes girl. Think of your physical therapist as a guide. They can't do the work for you. Even if they did you only see your P.T. a few times a week. Not enough. For you, I would ask for your exercises to be completed a minimum of 5 - 6 times a day for short periods ( meaning 10 - 15 minutes at a time, max). That only totals 60 - 90 minutes of exercise in 24 hours. Keeping the exercise to only 10 - 15 minutes at a time will help control the swelling as a result of exercise and help control your pain from exercise. If you go all out for 30 minutes first thing in the morning, you won't want to move the rest of the day. You are doing great - 1/2 the battle is just showing up to the appointment!
